Abstract
The SOUTHERNLOOP can be used by any person, but is especially suited for individuals with long hair, who have trouble sleeping due to their hair, or desire body and waviness in their hair.
Description

After growing my hair shoulder length, I desired a better method to control it without the use of irritating pins or clips.

I envisioned a hair sheath to hold my bun tightly. I experimented with various fabrics, but soon discovered that making this hair accessory with performance fabric (4 way stretch—18% spandex 82% nylon) would give me the desired results. Once I produced the Southerloop, I soon discovered it turned out to be a multi-purpose accessory.

When following the simple instructions (attached) the Southernloop will hold the hair off the neck for sleeping, showering, exercising and almost any activity imagined. Not only does it do a great job of holding the hair in place, it also does a remarkable job of sculpting beautiful full-bodied luxurious waves once it is removed.

FIG. 1

Slightly dampen hair with water and/or conditioner. Turn loop inside out and slide down over hand and forearm, with thumb in the shorter end.

FIG. 2

Grasp hair with both hands and smooth out the hair down to the ends.

FIG. 3

Gently twist hair in a circular motion to form a tight bun.

FIG. 4

While holding the bun, slide the loop down your arm and completely over the bun.

FIG. 5

While continuing to hold the bun, twist the loop over the bun as needed for a tight fit.

FIG. 6

The loop is in place and secure without pins or clips. For best results leave on for 6-8 hours.

FIG. 7

Remove the loop and enjoy beautiful full-bodied luxurious waves.

FIG. 8 Cut Fabric 18″×11″

FIG. 9 Fold fabric in half lengthwise (18″×5.5″)

FIG. 10. Using a stick pin, secure the raw edges together along the side and across the bottom.

FIG. 11 Using a regular sewing machine 2.5″ seam stitch, sew the vertical seam using a ⅝″ seam allowance.

FIG. 12 Using a regular sewing machine 2.5″ seam stitch, sew the horizontal seam using a ⅝″ seam allowance to connect the vertical side seam at the 15″ marker with the vertical folded edge at the 18″ marker.

FIG. 13 Using a Serger, 3.5 mm, surge the seamed edges.

FIG. 14 Turn the Southern loop right side out. Using a Serger, 3.5 mm, surge around the top single edge, taking care not to surge the top edges together.

FIG. 15 Turn the Southern loop right side out. Using a Serger, 3.5 mm, surge around the top single edge, taking care not to surge the top edges together.

FIG. 16 Turn the top edged inside ½ inch to form a hem.

Using a regular sewing machine 1.2 ( 1/16) stretch stitch to hem the top edge.

Claims
  • 1. The device is a fabric sheath designed to hold hair in place and provide a method of controlling the hair without using pins or clips. In addition to allowing for easier sleep for persons with long hair, it provides body and waves to the hair. The item is created by folding a section of cloth over itself, and then passing a needle repeatedly through and along the length of the overlapping portion in sequentially opposite directions and through sequentially spaced holes in said overlapping portions; thereby creating a sheath or tube open on only one end from the cloth. Specific diagrams showing this process are included herein.Once the sheath or tube is created, the end user utilizes the sheath by placing the person's hair into the sheath overnight while sleeping, allowing for easier sleep and the creation of waves in the hair.
