Claims
- 1. Container handling means comprising
- container speed adjusting means,
- drive means for sequentially delivering a plurality of said containers into contact with said container speed adjusting means,
- said container speed adjusting means having endless belt means for contacting each of said plurality of containers and adjusting the speed thereof,
- pulley means disposed within and supporting and engaging said belt means,
- said pulley means including a plurality of primary pulleys disposed within said belt means adjacent ends thereof and having at least one of said primary pulleys driven,
- said pulley means including a plurality of resiliently compressible secondary pulleys to provide shock absorption and support for said belt means,
- said container speed adjusting means having a first speed adjusting unit and a second speed adjusting unit spaced from said first speed adjusting unit with a path for travel of said containers disposed therebetween,
- each said speed adjusting unit having endless belt means including two vertically spaced endless belts each supported by two said primary pulleys of said pulley means, and
- each said adjusting unit having as said resiliently compressible secondary pulleys a plurality of said secondary pulleys disposed between said primary pulleys and in contact with said endless belts.
- 2. The container handling means of claim 1 including
- said secondary pulleys being disposed adjacent the path of travel of said containers through said speed adjusting means and having an annular recess for receipt of one of said belts.
- 3. The container handling means of claim 2 including
- the minimum spacing between said first and said second speed reducing units being such that said endless belts will contact each of said containers and reduce the speed thereof.
- 4. The container handling means of claim 3 including
- said spacing having a width of about 5 to 15 percent less than the external diameter of the portion of said containers that will contact said speed adjusting means.
- 5. The container handling means of claim 1 including
- about 2 to 6 said secondary pulleys disposed between each said pair of primary pulleys.
- 6. The container handling means of claim 1 including
- said secondary pulleys being composed of at least one elastomer.
- 7. The container handling means of claim 1 including
- said secondary pulleys being composed of at least one material selected from the group consisting of polyurethane, rubber and silicone.
- 8. The container handling means of claim 1 including
- motor means for rotating at least one of said primary pulleys of each pair of primary pulleys engaging a said endless belt.
- 9. The container handling means of claim 8 including
- said drive means being drive belt means.
- 10. The container handling means of claim 9 including
- conveyor means for receiving said containers from said speed adjusting means.
- 11. The container handling means of claim 10 including
- said drive means effecting translation and axial rotation of each of said containers, and
- said speed adjusting means reducing the translational speed and rotation of said containers.
- 12. The container handling means of claim 10 including
- said speed adjusting means directing said containers to said conveyor means at a speed generally equal to the speed of said conveyor means.
- 13. The container handling means of claim 12 including
- said speed adjusting means being structured to receive and deliver bottles of generally circular cross-sectional configuration.
- 14. Container handling means comprising
- container speed adjusting means,
- drive means for sequentially delivering a plurality of said containers into contact with said container speed adjusting means,
- said container speed adjusting means having endless belt means for contacting said containers,
- pulley means disposed within and supporting and engaging said belt means,
- said pulley means including a plurality of primary pulleys disposed within said belt means adjacent ends thereof and having at least one of said primary pulleys driven,
- said pulley means including a plurality of resiliently compressible secondary pulleys to provide shock absorption and support for said belt means, and
- said secondary pulleys being axially rotatable.
- 15. Container handling means comprising
- container speed adjusting means,
- drive means for sequentially delivering a plurality of said containers into contact with said container speed adjusting means,
- said container speed adjusting means having endless belt means for contacting said containers,
- pulley means disposed within and supporting and engaging said belt means,
- said pulley means including a plurality of primary pulleys disposed within said belt means adjacent ends thereof and having at least one of said primary pulleys driven,
- said pulley means including a plurality of resiliently compressible secondary pulleys to provide shock absorption and support for said belt means,
- said container speed adjusting means having a first speed adjusting unit and a second speed adjusting unit spaced from said first speed adjusting unit with a path for travel of said containers disposed therebetween,
- each said speed adjusting unit having endless belt means including two vertically spaced endless belts each supported by two said primary pulleys of said pulley means,
- each said adjusting unit having as said resiliently compressible secondary pulleys a plurality of said secondary pulleys disposed between said primary pulleys and in contact with said endless belts,
- said secondary pulleys having a pair of endwalls cooperating with a connecting member to define a recess for receiving said endless belt, and
- each said endwall having a plurality of weakened zones to facilitate generally radial resilient compression of said endwalls.
- 16. The container handling means of claim 15 including
- at least some of said weakened zones being recesses.
- 17. The container handling means of claim 16 including
- a plurality of said recesses having centers spaced generally equally from the center of said endwalls.
- 18. The container handling means of claim 17 including
- said recesses having a diameter of about 1/8 inch to 1/2 inch.
- 19. Container handling means comprising
- container speed adjusting means,
- drive means for sequentially delivering a plurality of said containers into contact with said container speed adjusting means,
- said container speed adjusting means having endless belt means for contacting said containers,
- pulley means disposed within and supporting and engaging said belt means,
- said pulley means including a plurality of primary pulleys disposed within said belt means adjacent ends thereof and having at least one of said primary pulleys driven,
- said pulley means including a plurality of resiliently compressible secondary pulleys to provide shock absorption and support for said belt means,
- said container speed adjusting means having a first speed adjusting unit and a second speed adjusting unit spaced from said first speed adjusting unit with a path for travel of said containers disposed therebetween,
- each said speed adjusting unit having endless belt means including two vertically spaced endless belts each supported by two said primary pulleys of said pulley means,
- each said adjusting unit having as said resiliently compressible secondary pulleys a plurality of said secondary pulleys disposed between said primary pulleys and in contact with said endless belts, and
- said belts having resiliently deformable portions including at least one of the resilient portions selected from the group consisting of weakened zones in said belt, openings in said belt and spaced generally radially outwardly projecting elements.
- 20. The container handling means of claim 19 including
- said resiliently deformable means including at least portions of said generally radially outwardly projecting elements having weakened zones.
- 21. The container handling means of claim 20 including
- gaps disposed between adjacent said radially outwardly projecting elements, and
- said gaps having a narrow entry adjacent the free ends of said radially outwardly projecting elements and an enlarged opening disposed radially inwardly of said gap.
- 22. The container handling means of claim 20 including
- said projections being generally mushroom-shaped having an opening therethrough and having said opening of smaller area than the area of said enlarged opening.
- 23. The container handling means of claim 20 including
- said outwardly projecting elements cooperating to define a first radially outwardly open recess having a first radial depth and adjacent second radially outwardly open recesses of a second radial extent greater than said first radial extent.
- 24. The container handling means of claim 20 including
- said outwardly projecting elements cooperating to define a first radially outwardly open recess having a first radial depth and adjacent second radially outwardly open recesses of a second radial extent greater than said first radial extent.
- 25. The container handling means of claim 19 including
- said resiliently deformable portions including at least two types of resiliently deformable portions selected from the group consisting of weakened zones, openings in said belt and spaced radially outwardly projecting elements.
- 26. Container speed reducing apparatus comprising
- endless belt means,
- primary pulley means for supporting and orbitally moving said endless belt means,
- a plurality of resiliently compressible secondary pulley means positioned to be in contact with said belt means and to compressively resiliently deform under the influence of container contact with said belt means,
- each said endless belt means including a pair of relatively vertically spaced endless belts,
- each belt being operatively associated with a pair of said primary pulley means and a plurality of said resiliently compressible secondary pulley means,
- said secondary pulleys having a pair of endwalls cooperating with a connecting member to define a recess which receives a said endless belt, and
- each said endwall having a plurality of weakened zones to facilitate generally radial compression of said endwalls.
- 27. The apparatus of claim 26 including
- said weakened zones being recesses.
- 28. The apparatus of claim 27 including
- said recesses having a diameter of about 1/8 inch to 1/2 inch.
- 29. Container speed reducing apparatus comprising
- endless belt means,
- primary pulley means for supporting and orbitally moving said endless belt means,
- a plurality of resiliently compressible secondary pulley means positioned to be in contact with said belt means and to compressively resiliently deform under the influence of container contact with said belt means, and
- said belt means having at least one belt having resiliently deformable portions selected from the group consisting of weakened zones in said belt, openings in said belt and spaced radially generally outwardly projecting elements.
- 30. The apparatus of claim 29 including
- said resiliently deformable portions including generally radially outwardly projecting elements having weakened zones therein, and
- said projections being generally mushroom-shaped having an opening therethrough and having said opening of smaller area than the area of said enlarged opening.
- 31. The apparatus of claim 29 including
- gaps disposed between adjacent said radially outwardly projecting elements, and
- said gaps having a narrow entry adjacent the free ends of said radially outwardly projecting elements and an enlarged opening disposed radially inwardly of said gap.
- 32. The apparatus of claim 30 including
- said resiliently deformable portions being a plurality of generally mushroom-shaped projections having an opening therein and having said opening of smaller area than the area of said enlarged portion.
- 33. The apparatus of claim 29 including
- said resiliently deformable portions being Spaced radially generally outwardly projecting elements, and
- said outwardly projecting elements cooperating to define a first radially outwardly open recess having a first radial depth and adjacent second radially outwardly open recesses of a second radial extent greater than said first radial extent.
- 34. The apparatus of claim 29 including
- said resiliently deformable portions including at least two resiliently deformable portions selected from at least two of the categories consisting of weakened zones in said belt, openings in said belt and spaced radially outwardly projecting elements.
- 35. Container speed reducing apparatus comprising
- endless belt means,
- primary pulley means for supporting and orbitally moving said endless belt means, and
- a plurality of resiliently compressible secondary pulley means positioned to be in contact with said belt means and to compressively resiliently deform under the influence of container contact with said belt means.
- 36. The apparatus of claim 35 including
- each said endless belt means including a pair of relatively vertically spaced endless belts, and
- each belt being operatively associated with a pair of said primary pulley means and a plurality of said resiliently compressible secondary pulley means.
- 37. The apparatus of claim 35 including
- said secondary pulleys composed of at least one elastomer.
- 38. The apparatus of claim 35 including
- said secondary pulleys composed of a material selected from the group consisting of polyurethane, rubber and silicone.
