Claims
- 1. A wireless apparatus for in-line skates comprising:
- an in-line skate having a skate unit disposed on the in-line skate, said skate unit having a wireless transmitter, a transducer and a processor, the processor processing a signal from the transducer into a digital data stream and the transmitter emitting a radio signal representing the digital data stream with a transmission signal strength reaching the upper regions of a skater's body, and
- a remote receiver unit having a receiver and processor disposed in an upper region of a skater's body, capable of receiving the digital data stream from the transmitter and displaying a visual representation of the data stream on an output device.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the transducer portion receives pulses from a magnet disposed in a wheel of an in-line skate.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the transducer portion has an auto-activation circuit.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the remote receiver unit is encased in a wristwatch assembly.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the remote receiver unit has attachment means for affixing said remote receiver unit to the chest of a skater.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the remote receiver unit displays the angular velocity of the in-line skate.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the remote receiver unit displays the distance traveled by the in-line skate.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the remote receiver unit displays the linear velocity of the in-line skate.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the digital data stream is encoded, preventing other remote receiver units from processing the digital data stream.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the processor of the skate unit accumulates pulse counts and converts pulse counts to a discrete frequency signal transmitted by the transmitter to the receiver.
- 11. A wireless speedometer for an in-line skate worn by a skater comprising:
- an in-line skate having at least one wheel with a magnetic member therein rotating with the wheel,
- a transducer fixed in the in-line skate in proximity of said wheel, the transducer having a connection to a wireless radio transmitter transmitting wheel rotation information, and
- a miniature computer and radio receiver worn by a skater receiving wheel rotation information from said transmitter, the computer including an information display and a processor converting the wheel rotation information into speed related data available at the display.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 11 wherein the information display portion displays the angular velocity of the in-line skate.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 11 wherein the information display portion displays the distance traveled by the in-line skate.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 11 wherein the information display portion displays the linear velocity of the in-line skate.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 11 wherein the digital data stream is encoded, preventing other radio receivers from processing the digital data stream.
