Claims
- 1. A method of preparing a substantially spherical granule of famciclovir, which method comprises introducing a mixture consisting essentially of approximately 25% famciclovir and 75% microcrystalline cellulose into a high speed agitation granulator and spraying on water or a mixture of ethanol and water as binder solution.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 where the amount of binder solution is regulated such that granules are suitable for administration by spoon and are generally more than 500 um in diameter.
- 3. A method according to claim 1 wherein the granules are agitated in the granulator after spraying of the binder solution to improve the spherical shape and smooth the surface of the granules.
- 4. A method according to claim 1 wherein the substantially spherical granule contains an optional coating.
- 5. A pharmaceutical composition of substantially spherical granules of famciclovir the granules consisting essentially of approximately 25% famciclovir and at least approximately 75% microcrystalline cellulose as the sole solid excipient wherein the spherical granules are produced in a high speed agitation granulator.
- 6. A method according to claim 1 or 4 wherein the microcrystalline cellulose is the sole excipient.
- 7. A granule according to claim 6 having a diameter of 500 to 1500 um.
- 8. A sachet containing a unit dose of famciclovir in the form of granules as defined in claim 5.
- 9. A method according to claim 1 wherein the granules have a diameter of between 500 and 1500um.
- 10. A composition according to claim 5 wherein the granules are optionally coated.
