Claims
- 1. A hazardous liquid capture and containment device comprising in combination a pan and longitudinally extending gasket members, and adapted for use between the opposing parallel rails of a railroad track, said rails each comprising a bottom member, a top member and a vertical member defining a generally I-shaped configuration;said pan comprising a bottom and adjoined side walls and end walls; said gasket members being disposed between said side walls and said vertical members of said rails in order to seal the area therebetween to prevent loss of liquid.
- 2. The device of claim 1, wherein said gasket members are compressible.
- 3. The device of claim 1, wherein said gasket members have a sloping upper surface.
- 4. The device of claim 1, wherein said gasket members are each comprised of an exterior member and an interior member, whereby said exterior member abuts said rail and said interior member abuts said pan.
- 5. The device of clain 4, where said exterior member is a different height than said interior member.
- 6. The device of claim 1, where said side walls each further comprise a longitudinal recess defining an area of reduced height for said side walls.
- 7. The device of claim 6, where said gasket members comprise an interior shoulder which rests on said recess.
- 8. The device of claim 1, in combination with a second said hazardous liquid capture and containment device, where said devices are connected together by joining said connector fittings.
- 9. The device of claim 8, further comprising a conduit, whereby said connector fitting can be joined to said conduit for removal of hazardous liquid from said pan.
- 10. The device of claim 1, further comprising an apertured deck member positioned within said pan.
- 11. The device of claim 1, further comprising an absorbent mat member positioned within said pan.
- 12. The device of claim 1, wherein said pan further comprises a mating lip positioned on one of said end walls.
- 13. The device of claim 1, further in combination with lateral pan members adapted for use on the outside of said rails, said lateral pan members each having a side wall and gasket members, said gasket members being disposed between said side walls and said vertical members of said rails in order to seal the area therebetween to prevent loss of liquid.
- 14. The device of claim 13, wherein said lateral pan gasket members are compressible.
- 15. The device of claim 13, wherein said lateral pan gasket members have a sloping upper surface.
- 16. The device of claim 13, wherein said lateral pan gasket members are each comprised of an exterior member and an interior member, whereby said exterior member abuts said rail and said interior member abuts said lateral pan.
- 17. The device of claim 16, where said exterior member is a different height than said interior member.
- 18. The device of claim 13, where said lateral pan side walls each further comprise a longitudinal recess defining an area of reduced height for said lateral pan side walls.
- 19. The device of claim 18, where said lateral pan gasket members comprise an interior shoulder which rests on said lateral pan recess.
- 20. A method of installing a hazardous liquid capture and containment device comprising in combination a pan and longitudinally extending gasket members, and adapted for use between the opposing parallel rails of a railroad track, said rails each comprising a bottom member, a top member and a vertical member defining a generally I-shaped configuration;said pan comprising a bottom and adjoined side walls and end walls; said gasket members being disposed between said side walls and said vertical members of said rails in order to seal the area therebetween to prevent loss of liquid, the method comprising: positioning said pan between said rails and inserting a first gasket member between one of said side walls and one of said rails; compressing said first gasket member by drawing said pan toward said one of said rails; inserting a second gasket member between the other of said side walls and the other of said rails; and releasing said pan such that said pan centers between said rails such that said gasket members are in a compressed state.
- 21. The method of claim 20, further comprising the steps of providing each of said gasket members as an interior member and an exterior member, where said steps of inserting said gasket members is accomplished by first inserting said exterior member to abut against said rail and subsequently inserting said interior member to abut against said exterior member and said side wall.
- 22. The method of claim 20, further comprising the steps of providing lateral pan members adapted for use on the outside of said rails, said lateral pan members each having a side wall and gasket members, said gasket members being disposed between said side walls and said vertical members of said rails in order to seal the area therebetween to prevent loss of liquid;positioning said lateral pan members to the outside of said rails and inserting said lateral pan gasket members between said lateral pans and one of said rails; compressing said lateral pan gasket members by drawing said lateral pans toward said one of said rails; securing said lateral members such that said lateral pan gasket members are in a compressed state.
- 23. The method of claim 22, further comprising the steps of providing each of said lateral pan gasket members as an interior member and an exterior member, where said step of inserting said lateral pan gasket members is accomplished by first inserting said exterior member to abut against said rail and subsequently inserting said interior member to abut against said exterior member and said side wall.
