Claims
- 1. A spin stabilized projectile for delivering a payload comprising:
- an elongated casing having a longitudinal axis extending from a top portion of said elongated casing to a bottom portion of said elongated casing;
- an ignition housing coupled to said bottom portion of said elongated casing in an ignition chamber, said ignition housing extends rearwardly from said bottom portion, said ignition housing comprising a forwardly extended portion having a charge recess positioned in a front portion;
- an opening charge being positioned within said charge recess;
- a payload chamber positioned within said elongated casing;
- a dividing wall separating said payload chamber from said ignition chamber, said dividing wall including a wall recess that receives said forwardly extended portion; and
- a suppression space that suppresses axial force generated by a detonation of said opening charge, said suppression space positioned between a front end of said forwardly extended portion and a front end of said wall recess;
- wherein the detonation of said opening charge transmits radial force to said dividing wall to rupture said elongated casing outwardly.
- 2. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 1, said payload chamber comprising an inner surface substantially parallel to said longitudinal axis and having a plurality of arcuate grooves.
- 3. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 2, said arcuate grooves fix the payload against radial and tangential movement.
- 4. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 2, said arcuate grooves forming intended breaking zones in said elongated casing substantially parallel to said longitudinal axis.
- 5. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 1, said payload comprising a plurality of elongated sub-projectiles arranged in cylindrical columns parallel to said longitudinal axis, said cylindrical columns being positioned within said payload chamber to form a cross-sectional profile substantially similar to an inner surface profile of said payload chamber,
- whereby radial and tangential movement of the payload is restricted.
- 6. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 5, said elongated sub-projectiles comprising a plurality of coaxially aligned sub-projectiles.
- 7. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 6, each of said plurality of coaxially aligned sub-projectiles comprising a conical top portion and a conical bottom recess for receiving a conical top portion of another of said plurality of coaxially aligned sub-projectiles.
- 8. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 5, said plurality of elongated sub-projectiles including a partially arrow stabilized sub-projectile.
- 9. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 6, said plurality of coaxially aligned sub-projectiles including partially arrow stabilized sub-projectiles.
- 10. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 6, each of said plurality of coaxially aligned sub-projectiles comprising a spherical top portion and a spherical bottom recess for receiving a spherical top portion of another of said plurality of coaxially aligned sub-projectiles.
- 11. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 1, further comprising:
- an axial fixing device for retaining said payload within said payload chamber, said axial fixing device positioned between said top portion of said elongated casing and atop of said payload chamber and including a screw member.
- 12. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 1, a wall thickness of said elongated casing decreases along the longitudinal axis from said bottom portion to said top portion.
- 13. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 2, wherein a curvature of said arcuate grooves is smaller than a curvature of a cross section of a cylindrical column of said payload.
- 14. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 13, said payload comprising a plurality of cylindrical columns positioned so that a generating curve of their envelope forms a polygon, said polygon having a number of sides equal to a number of arcuate grooves, said arcuate grooves provided in a number of groups equal to one-half of said number of arcuate grooves with angular intervals of 360.degree./number of groups,
- wherein a mutual spacing of groups is greater than a spacing of arcuate grooves within said group.
- 15. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 11, said axial fixing device being screwed to said elongated casing for adjusting an axial length of said payload chamber.
- 16. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 11, said axial fixing device comprising a penetrator.
- 17. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 1, further comprising a penetrator device disposed on top of said payload chamber.
- 18. The spin stabilized projectile in accordance with claim 1, said suppression space being filled with air.
- 19. The spin stabilized projectile in accordance with claim 1, said suppression space being filled with a material for reducing pressure wave propagation.
- 20. The spin stabilized projectile in accordance with claim 1, said ignition housing comprising a fuse space formed adjacent to said charge recess.
- 21. The spin stabilized projectile in accordance with claim 1, said ignition housing comprising a fuse, electronic time module, and a power supply contained therein.
- 22. The spin stabilized projectile in accordance with claim 1, said elongated casing comprising break zones extending along a length of said payload chamber.
- 23. The spin stabilized projectile in accordance with claim 1, further comprising a guide belt that surrounds said elongated casing and said opening charge.
- 24. The spin stabilized projectile according to claim 1, said payload chamber comprising an inner surface composed of longitudinally extending arcuate grooves.
- 25. The spin stabilized projectile according to claim 24, further comprising a payload arranged within the payload chamber in a plurality of cylindrical columns.
- 26. The spin stabilized projectile according to claim 25, curvature of said arcuate grooves is smaller than a curvature of one of the plurality of cylindrical columns.
- 27. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 24, further comprising a payload composed of a plurality of cylindrical columns positioned so that a generating curve of their envelope forms a polygon, said polygon having a number of sides equal to a number of said arcuate grooves in said payload chamber, said arcuate grooves provided in a number of groups equal to one-half of said number of arcuate grooves with angular intervals of 360.degree./number of groups.
- 28. The spin-stabilized projectile according to claim 1, a wall thickness of said elongated casing being constant in the longitudinal direction from said bottom portion to said top portion.

The present application is a continuation of U.S. patent application Ser. No. 08/647,324 filed on May 9, 1996, which is a continuation-in-part of U.S. application Ser.
