Claims
- 1. A spinal disk implantation kit, comprising:
- a spinal disk implant shaped and dimensioned to fit between two vertebrae of the human body after an intervertebral disk is removed; and
- an implant delivery tool comprising
- a base,
- a handle connected to the base, and
- a pair of spaced apart, flexible opposed arms extending from the base for holding and releasing the implant, the spacing between the arms being such that the arms can hold the implant in compression therebetween, and the flexibility of the arms being such that the implant can be released therefrom in response to manual force applied to the handle.
- 2. The kit of claim 1, wherein the delivery tool further comprises
- a stabilizing lip extending from the base into a region between the pair of flexible arms, the lip being positioned to engage the spinal disk implant to prevent the implant from rotating while held between the opposed arms.
- 3. The kit of claim 2, further including
- a second stabilizing lip extending from the base into a region between the pair of flexible arms, the second lip being positioned to engage the spinal disk implant to prevent the implant from rotating while held between the opposed arms.
- 4. A spinal disk implantation kit, comprising:
- a spinal disk implant shaped and dimensioned to fit between two vertebrae of the human body after an intervertebral disk is removed; and
- an implant delivery tool comprising a base, a pair of spaced apart arms extending from the base to hold the implant therebetween, and a breakable release band connected to the arms for holding the implant to the delivery tool;
- whereby, after the implant is delivered between the vertebrae and in response to withdrawal of the delivery tool from the vertebrae, said breakable release band breaks to release the implant from the delivery tool.
- 5. The kit of claim 4, wherein the breakable release band further comprises a breakable weak link that breaks when the delivery tool is withdrawn.
- 6. The kit of claim 4, wherein the delivery tool further comprises a stabilizing lip extending from the base into a region between the pair of spaced apart arms, the lip being positioned to engage the spinal disk implant to prevent the implant from rotating while held between the spaced apart arms.
- 7. The kit of claim 6, further including a second stabilizing lip extending from the base into a region between the pair of spaced apart arms, the second lip being positioned to engage the spinal disk implant to prevent the implant from rotating while held between the spaced apart arms.
- 8. A spinal disk implantation kit, comprising:
- a spinal disk implant shaped and dimensioned to fit between two vertebrae of the human body after an intervertebral disk is removed, said implant comprising a solid body having:
- four faces arranged to define a right-rectangular body, including two opposed side faces and two opposed transverse faces, at least one of the transverse faces having a central region with three-dimensional features thereon and an anterior platform region lying along an anterior margin of the transverse face,
- a convexly curved anterior face defining a first end of the right-rectangular body, and
- a posterior face defining a second end of the right-rectangular body; and
- an implant delivery tool comprising means for holding the implant in compression and then controllably releasing the implant.
- 9. The kit of claim 8, wherein the delivery tool further comprises:
- a base;
- a pair of flexible arms extending from the base; and
- a stabilizing lip extending from the base into a region between the pair of flexible arms, the lip being positioned to engage the spinal disk implant to prevent the implant from rotating while held between the flexible arms.
- 10. The kit of claim 9, further including a second stabilizing lip extending from the base into a region between the pair of flexible arms, the second lip being positioned to engage the spinal disk implant to prevent the implant from rotating while held between the flexible arms.
- 11. The kit of claim 8, wherein the implant delivery tool comprises:
- a base; and
- a pair of flexible opposed arms extending from the base and spaced apart and dimensioned to releasably hold the implant therebetween.
- 12. The kit of claim 8, wherein the implant delivery tool comprises:
- a base;
- a pair of flexible opposed arms extending from the base, the arms being spaced and dimensioned to releasably hold the implant therebetween; and
- a release band connected to the delivery tool and extending around a portion of the implant to hold the implant in place on the delivery tool, the release band having a breakable weak link therein.
