Claims
- 1. A compound represented by structure 1:

- 4. The compound of claim 1, wherein R2 and R3 represent independently for each occurrence H, OR, or N(R)2.
- 5. The compound of claim 1, wherein at least one pair of geminal instances of R2 and R3 taken together represent O.
- 6. The compound of claim 1, wherein R6 represents H, alkyl or acyl.
- 7. The compound of claim 1, wherein R7 represents H, alkyl or aralkyl.
- 8. The compound of claim 1, wherein R1 represents independently for each occurrence OR, N(R)2, halogen, CO2R, CON(R)2, OCF3, CN, or CF3; and R2 and R3 represent independently for each occurrence H, OR, or N(R)2.
- 9. The compound of claim 1, wherein R1 represents independently for each occurrence OR, N(R)2, halogen, CO2R, CON(R)2, OCF3, CN, or CF3; and at least one pair of geminal instances of R2 and R3 taken together represent O.
- 10. The compound of claim 1, wherein R1 represents independently for each occurrence OR, N(R)2, halogen, CO2R, CON(R)2, OCF3, CN, or CF3; R2 and R3 represent independently for each occurrence H, OR, or N(R)2; and R6 represents H, alkyl or acyl.
- 11. The compound of claim 1, wherein R1 represents independently for each occurrence OR, N(R)2, halogen, CO2R, CON(R)2, OCF3, CN, or CF3; at least one pair of geminal instances of R2 and R3 taken together represent 0; and R6 represents H, alkyl or acyl.

- 13. The compound of claim 1, wherein R1 represents independently for each occurrence OR, halogen, or CF3; and at least one pair of geminal instances of R2 and R3 taken together represent O.
- 14. The compound of claim 1, wherein R1 represents independently for each occurrence OR, halogen, or CF3; R2 and R3 represent independently for each occurrence H, OR, or N(R)2; and R6 represents H, alkyl or acyl.
- 15. The compound of claim 1, wherein R1 represents independently for each occurrence OR, halogen, or CF3; at least one pair of geminal instances of R2 and R3 taken together represent O; and R6 represents H, alkyl or acyl.
- 16. The compound of claim 1, wherein said compound has an IC50 value less than 10 μM in an assay based on a mammalian G-protein-coupled receptor or sigma receptor.
- 17. The compound of claim 1, wherein said compound has an IC50 value less than 1 μM in an assay based on a mammalian G-protein-coupled receptor or sigma receptor.
- 18. The compound of claim 1, wherein said compound has an IC50 value less than 0.1 μM in an assay based on a mammalian G-protein-coupled receptor or sigma receptor.

- 105. A formulation, comprising a compound of claim 1, 19, 37, 60, or 82; and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.
- 106. A method of modulating the activity of a G-protein-coupled receptor or sigma receptor in a mammal, comprising the step of:
administering to a mammal an effective amount of a compound of claim 1, 19, 37, 60, or 82.
- 107. A method of treating a mammal suffering from inflammatory pain, neuropathic pain, multiple sclerosis, anxiety, depression, psychosis, stroke, a motor neuron disease, a disease associated with intraocular pressure, or glaucoma, comprising the step of:
administering to a mammal a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of claim 1, 19, 37, 60, or 82.
- 108. The method of claim 107, wherein said mammal is a primate, equine, canine or feline.
- 109. The method claim 107, wherein said mammal is a human.
- 110. The method of claim 107, wherein said formulation is administered orally.
- 111. The method of claim 107, wherein said formulation is administered intravenously.
- 112. The method of claim 107, wherein said formulation is administered sublingually.
- 113. The method of claim 107, wherein said formulation is administered ocularly.
