Claims
- 1. A splint/therapeutic device for biasing a selected body portion of a patient to a preselected position and for at least partially immobilizing said selected body portion, said device comprising:
- a splint body preformed to restrain said selected body portion in said preselected position, said splint body integrally fabricated of a resilient material to at least partially immobilize said selected body portion, said splint body comprised of a plurality of sections, each of said plurality of sections having a selected modulus of elasticity to achieve a preselected degree of flexibility, said splint body biasing said selected body portion in said preselected position, said splint body having an inner surface that has preselectively contoured areas within said material of said splint body, without the necessity of deformation thereof, to closely conform to and engage said body portion as said body portion is in said preselected position, said selected body portion being the upper back, said splint body biasing said upper back in an erect position wherein said splint body further defines a lumbar portion, a cervical portion and a thoracic portion, said lumbar portion receiving the lumbar region of the patient, said cervical portion supporting the back of the neck and head of the patient such that said neck and said head are biased in a correctly aligned position, said thoracic portion receiving the spinal column, said thoracic portion biasing the spinal column in a corrected position.
- 2. A splint/therapeutic device for biasing a selected body portion of a patient to a preselected position and for at least partially immobilizing said selected body portion, said device comprising:
- a splint body preformed to restrain said selected body portion in said preselected position, said splint body integrally fabricated of a resilient material to at least partially immobilize said selected body portion, said splint body comprised of a plurality of sections, each of said plurality of sections having a selected modulus of elasticity to achieve a preselected degree of flexibility, said splint body biasing said selected body portion in said preselected position, said splint body having an inner surface that has preselectively contoured areas within said material of said splint body, without the necessity of deformation thereof, to closely conform to and engage said body portion as said body portion is in said preselected position, said selected body portion of said patient being the neck, said splint body configured to encircle and support said neck.
- 3. The splint/therapeutic device of claim 2 wherein said splint body defines an extension for supporting the upper back of said patient.
- 4. A splint/therapeutic device for biasing a selected body portion of a patient to a preselected position and for at least partially immobilizing said selected body portion, said device comprising:
- a splint body preformed to restrain said selected body portion in said preselected position, said splint body integrally fabricated of a resilient material to at least partially immobilize said selected body portion, said splint body comprised of a plurality of sections, each of said plurality of sections having a selected modulus of elasticity to achieve a preselected degree of flexibility, said splint body biasing said selected body portion in said preselected position, said splint body having an inner surface that has preselectively contoured areas within said material of said splint body, without the necessity of deformation thereof, to closely conform to and engage said body portion as said body portion is in said preselected position, said selected body portion of said patient being the hips which have a ball and a socket for each leg, said splint body configured to maintain said ball in said socket for each of said legs such that said hips grow properly.
- 5. A splint/therapeutic device for biasing a selected body portion of a patient to a preselected position and for at least partially immobilizing said selected body portion, said device comprising:
- a splint body preformed to restrain said selected body portion in said preselected position, said splint body integrally fabricated of a resilient material to at least partially immobilize said selected body portion, said splint body comprised of a plurality of sections, each of said plurality of sections having a selected modulus of elasticity to achieve a preselected degree of flexibility, said splint body biasing said selected body portion in said preselected position, said splint body having an inner surface that has preselectively contoured areas within said material of said splint body, without the necessity of deformation thereof, to closely conform to and engage said body portion as said body portion is in said preselected position, said selected body portion of said patient being the knee, said splint body configured to bias said knee in a straightened position.
- 6. A splint/therapeutic device for biasing a selected body portion of a patient to a preselected position and for providing at least partial limited mobility to said selected body portion, said device comprising:
- a splint body preformed to restrain said selected body portion in said preselected position, said splint body integrally fabricated of a resilient material to provide said at least partial mobility to said selected body portion, said splint body comprised of a plurality of sections, each of said plurality of sections having a selected modulus of elasticity to achieve a preselected degree of flexibility, said splint body biasing said selected body portion in said preselected position, said splint body having an inner surface that has preselectively contoured areas within said material of said splint body, without the necessity of deformation thereof, to closely conform to and engage said body portion as said body portion is in said preselected position; and,
- securing means for securing said splint body to said selected body portion of said patient, said securing means including a patient body encircling portion integral with said splint body.
