Claims
- 1. A camera pedestal comprising:
- a front chassis section;
- a rear chassis section;
- a journal pivotally connecting the front and rear chassis sections;
- a crab steering belt crossing over between the front and rear chassis sections at a location adjacent to the journal;
- a pair of spaced apart front legs pivotally attached to the front chassis section;
- a pair of spaced apart rear legs pivotally attached to the rear chassis section; and
- dampening means for dampening relative pivotal movement between the front and rear chassis sections.
- 2. The camera pedestal of claim 1 further comprising a face plate attached to the front chassis section and a bearing plate attached to the rear chassis section with the face plate in sliding contact with the bearing plate.
- 3. The camera pedestal of claim 2 wherein the bearing plate comprises Teflon.
- 4. The camera pedestal of claim 1 wherein the front chassis section and the rear chassis section together form a generally square chassis.
- 5. The camera pedestal of claim 1 wherein the dampening means comprises a limiter having a drag plate on a dampening shaft within a dampening cylinder.
- 6. The camera pedestal of claim 1 wherein the journal extends in a direction of travel of the pedestal, further comprising kingpins on the front and rear legs and axles on the kingpins, positioned below the journal.
- 7. The camera pedestal of claim 6 wherein the crab steering belt engages a sprocket on each kingpin.
- 8. The camera pedestal of claim 1 wherein the dampening means comprises a pair of limiters spaced apart on opposite sides of the journal.
- 9. The camera pedestal of claim 8 wherein the limiters contain a viscous fluid.
- 10. The cameral pedestal of claim 1 further comprising:
- a telescoping column on the front chassis section.
- 11. A camera pedestal comprising:
- a first chassis section;
- a second chassis section;
- a journal pivot bolt pivotally connecting the first chassis section and the second chassis section;
- an adjustable dampening limiter, including:
- a damping cylinder attached to the first chassis section;
- a drag plate having a through hole, positioned within the dampening cylinder;
- a drag plate shaft attached to the drag plate and linked to the second chassis section; and
- an adjustment shaft extending into the through hole in the drag plate and having a shaft hole which can be aligned with the through hole in the drag plate, the damping cylinder providing adjustable damping by turning the adjustment shaft to control the amount of alignment between the through hole in the drag plate and the hole in the adjustment shaft.
- 12. The camera pedestal of claim 11 further comprising:
- a pair of spaced apart front legs pivotally attached to the front chassis section;
- a pair of spaced apart rear legs pivotally attached to the rear chassis section; and
- axles extending from the front and the rear legs with wheels rotatably mounted on the axles and with the axles positioned below the journal.
