Claims
- 1. A method for assembling a camera comprising the steps of:
- positioning a film cartridge in a cartridge chamber of a camera frame assembly having a rear opening, and an intermediate section facing said rear opening;
- advancing a leading portion of a filmstrip out of said cartridge and over said intermediate section;
- turning said spool in a rewind direction for said cartridge;
- holding said leading portion within said intermediate section during said turning;
- following said turning and holding steps, admitting a mandrel into a supply chamber of the camera frame assembly;
- guiding said leading portion of said filmstrip around said mandrel;
- cinching said filmstrip to said mandrel;
- rotating said mandrel to wind a main portion of said filmstrip into a film roll around said mandrel; and
- removing said mandrel from said film roll.
- 2. The method of claim 1 further comprising winding said main portion of said filmstrip into said film roll within said supply chamber of said camera frame assembly.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said camera frame assembly has an active light lock closer and said turning step further comprises parking said spool in a safety zone for said active light lock closer.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein said holding further comprises directly engaging said leading portion.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein said turning is limited to rotation in said rewind direction.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein said turning step further comprises sensing the rotational position of said spool relative to said camera frame assembly.
- 7. The method of claim 6 wherein said turning step further comprises turning said spool in said rewind direction for said cartridge through a net rotation of less than 360 degrees.
- 8. The method of claim 7 wherein said turning step is further characterized by rotating said spool in only said rewind direction.
- 9. The method of claim 1 further comprising, following said removing step, closing said rear opening of the camera frame assembly.
- 10. A method for assembling a camera, for use with a film cartridge having a spool, a filmstrip attached to said spool, and an active light lock; and a camera frame assembly having a thumbwheel keyed to said cartridge spool and an active light lock closer engaging said active light lock, said active light lock being closed when said spool is disposed in a first rotational orientation relative to said camera frame assembly, said active light lock being open when said spool is disposed in a second orientation relative to said camera frame assembly, said method comprising the steps of:
- advancing a leading portion of a filmstrip out of said cartridge;
- turning said spool in a rewind direction for said cartridge;
- preventing withdrawal of said leading portion into said cartridge during said turning;
- following said turning and preventing, admitting a mandrel into a supply chamber of the camera frame assembly;
- guiding said leading portion of said filmstrip around said mandrel;
- cinching said filmstrip to said mandrel;
- rotating said mandrel to wrap said filmstrip into a film roll around said mandrel;
- removing said mandrel from said film roll; and
- following said removing step, closing said rear opening of the camera frame assembly.
- 11. The method of claim 10 wherein said turning step further comprises detecting an initial orientation of said spool relative to said camera frame assembly and rotating said spool, responsive to said detecting, through an arc sufficient to place said spool in said second orientation.
- 12. The method of claim 10 wherein said turning step further comprises turning said spool in said rewind direction for said cartridge through a net rotation of less than 360 degrees.
- 13. The method of claim 12 wherein said turning step is further characterized by rotating said spool in only said rewind direction.
- 14. A method for assembling a camera comprising the steps of:
- positioning a film cartridge in a cartridge chamber of a camera frame assembly having a rear opening, a thumbwheel, and an active light lock closer;
- engaging a spool of said cartridge and a film advance;
- advancing a leading portion of a filmstrip out of said cartridge;
- turning said spool in a rewind direction for said cartridge;
- preventing withdrawal of said leading portion into said cartridge during said turning;
- admitting a mandrel into a supply chamber of the camera frame assembly;
- guiding said leading portion of said filmstrip around said mandrel;
- cinching said filmstrip to said mandrel;
- rotating said mandrel to wind a main portion of said filmstrip into a film roll around said mandrel; and
- removing said mandrel from said film roll.
- 15. The method of claim 14 further comprising, following said removing step, closing said rear opening of the camera frame assembly.
- advancing a leading portion of a filmstrip out of said cartridge;
- turning said spool in a rewind direction for said cartridge;
- preventing withdrawal of said leading portion into said cartridge during said turning;
- admitting a mandrel into a supply chamber of the camera frame assembly;
- guiding said leading portion of said filmstrip around said mandrel;
- cinching said filmstrip to said mandrel;
- rotating said mandrel to wind a main portion of said filmstrip into a film roll around said mandrel;
- removing said mandrel from said film roll; and
- following said removing step, closing said rear opening of the camera frame assembly.
- 17. A method for assembling a camera comprising the steps of:
- positioning a film cartridge in a cartridge chamber of a camera frame assembly;
- advancing a leading portion of a filmstrip out of said cartridge;
- following said advancing, winding a main portion of said filmstrip out of said cartridge and into a film roll;
- following said advancing and prior to said winding, turning said spool in a rewind direction for said cartridge; and
- preventing withdrawal of said leading portion into said cartridge during said turning;
- admitting a mandrel into a supply chamber of the camera frame assembly;
- guiding said leading portion of said filmstrip around said mandrel;
- cinching said filmstrip to said mandrel;
- rotating said mandrel to wind a main portion of said filmstrip into a film roll around said mandrel; and removing said mandrel from said film roll.
- 18. The method of claim 17 wherein said filmstrip is unexposed and said method further comprises winding said main portion of said filmstrip into a film roll within a supply chamber of said camera frame assembly.
- 19. The method of claim 18 wherein said turning is limited to rotation in said rewind direction.
- 20. The method of claim 18 further comprising closing a rear opening of the camera frame assembly.
