Claims
- 1. In combination a seating frame with spaced first and second frame members, elongate spring means having a first end and a second end with first catch means at said first end and second catch means at said second end, and anchor means for securing the spring means in a position spanning between the first and second frame members with the first end of the spring means connected to the first frame member and the second end of the spring means connected to the second frame member,
- the first frame member including a first thin flange member having generally planar surfaces extending in a direction away from the second frame member to a second flange member distal end,
- the second frame member including a second thin flange member having generally planar surfaces extending from the second frame member to a distal end of the second flange member in a direction away from the first frame member,
- the anchor means comprising:
- a first generally S-shaped clip member including a first spring retaining hook portion, a first frame engaging hook portion, and a first central portion between the first spring retaining hook portion and the first frame engaging hook portion, the first central portion having forward end and a rearward end, and
- a second generally S-shaped clip member including, a second spring retaining hook portion a second frame engaging hook portion, and a second central portion between the second spring retaining hook portion and the second frame engaging hook portion, the second central portion having a forward end and a rearward end,
- the first spring retaining hook portion of the first S-shaped clip member extending from the first central portion towards the rearward end of the first central portion and away from the second frame member so as to define a first clip member first slot between the first central portion and the first spring retaining hook portion open towards the rearward end of the first central portion, the first clip member first slot receiving and retaining therein the first spring catch means,
- the first frame engaging hook portion extending from the first central portion towards the forward end of the first central portion and towards the second frame member so as to define a first clip member second slot between the first central portion and the first frame engaging hook portion open towards the forward end of the first central portion, the first clip member second slot receiving therein in a friction-fit-manner the distal end of the first flange member,
- the second spring retaining hook portion of the second S-shaped clip member extending from the second central portion towards the rearward end of the second central portion and away from the first frame member so as to define a second clip member first slot between the second central portion and the second spring retaining hook portion open towards the rearward end of the second central portion, the second clip member first slot receiving and retaining therein the second spring catch means,
- the second frame engaging hook portion extending from the second central portion towards the forward end of the second central portion and towards the first frame member so as to define a second clip member second slot between the second central portion and the second frame engaging hook portion open towards the forward end of the second central portion, the second clip member second slot receiving therein in a friction-fit-manner the distal end of the second flange member,
- the first end of the spring means secured to the first frame member with the first spring catch means received in the first clip member first slot and the distal end of the first flange member received in the first clip member second slot,
- the second end of the spring means secured to the second frame member with the second spring catch means received in the second clip member first slot and the distal end of the second flange member received in the second clip member second slot,
- wherein the spring means urges the first clip member second slot onto the distal end of the first flange member and the second clip member second slot onto the distal end of the second flange member.
- 2. The combination as claimed in claim 1 wherein the central portion of the first clip member includes an upper surface and a flat lower surface, said first spring retaining hook portion extending from the upper surface, and said first frame engaging hook portion extending from the lower surface,
- said first flange member provided in a generally horizontal orientation with said generally planar surfaces comprising an upper and a lower flange surface,
- the first frame engaging hook portion engaging the lower flange surface and the flat lower surface abutting in coplanar relation with the upper flange surface to prevent pivoting movement of the first clip member relative to the first flange member.
- 3. The combination as claimed in claim 2 wherein the clip member is integrally formed entirely from plastic.
- 4. The combination as claimed in claim 3 wherein the first frame engaging hook portion is resiliently deformable away from the first central portion from an unbiased position, wherein the first frame engaging hook portion angles towards the forward end of the first central portion, to a biased position away from the first central portion, the first flange member having a thickness to urge the first frame engaging hook portion away from the unbiased position when the distal end is inserted into the first clip member second slot.
- 5. The combination as claimed in claim 4 wherein said seating frame is an automobile seating frame.
- 6. The combination as claimed in claim 2 wherein each of the first and second flange members includes a forward end remote from the distal end,
- the first frame member further comprising a first elongate tubular support member and first web means joining the forward end of the first flange member to the first support member,
- the second frame member further comprising a second elongate tubular support member and second web means joining the forward end of the second flange member to the second support member.
- 7. A combination as claimed in claim 6 wherein the flange member, the web means and the support member are integrally formed.
- 8. A combination as claimed in claim 6 wherein the support member comprises a tubular member.
- 9. A combination as claimed in claim 2 wherein the central portion, the spring retaining hood portion and the frame engaging hook portion are integrally formed.
- 10. The combination as claimed in claim 1 wherein the central portion of the first clip member has a flat surface opposed to the first frame engaging hook portion such that with the distal end of the first flange member received in the first clip member second slot, the flat surface abuts in coplanar relation one of the planar surfaces of the first flange member.
- 11. The combination as claimed in claim 10 wherein said first flange member is provided in a generally horizontal orientation and said planar surfaces are upper and lower flange surfaces, the distal end of the first flange member is received in the first clip member second slot with the flat surface abutting the upper flange surface and the first frame engaging hook portion engaging the lower flange surface.
- 12. The combination as claimed in claim 11 wherein the first frame engaging hook portion includes a rib member extending into the first clip member second slot to engage said lower flange surface to restrict removal of the distal end from the second slot.
- 13. The combination as claimed in claim 1 wherein the first frame member includes guide means for positioning of the first clip member on the first frame member.
- 14. The combination as claimed in claim 13 wherein the guide means comprises visual indicia on the first frame member.
- 15. The combination as claimed in claim 13 wherein said first clip member further includes generally parallel spaced sides, both of the first clip member first and second slots extending laterally through the first clip member from one side to the other,
- the guide means comprising shoulder means on the first flange member spaced on both sides of the first clip member to engage each of said sides and restrict lateral sliding movement of the first clip member along the first flange member.
- 16. The combination as claimed in claim 1 wherein the first frame engaging hook portion is resiliently deformable way from the first central portion from an unbiased position, wherein the first frame engaging hook portion angles towards the forward end of the first central portion, to a biased position away from the first central portion, the first flange member having a thickness to urge the first frame engaging hook portion away from the unbiased position when the distal end of the first flange member is inserted into the first clip member second slot.
- 17. The combination as claimed in claim 16 wherein a forwardmost end of the first frame engaging hook portion includes a camming surface extending rearwardly and towards the first central portion to engage the distal end of the first flange member on insertion of the distal end into the first clip member second slot and assist movement of the first hook engaging portion away from the unbiased position.
- 18. The combination as claimed in claim 1 wherein the first and second frame members include guide means for positioning of the first clip member on the first frame member, and the second clip member on the second frame member.
- 19. The combination as claimed in claim 18 wherein each of said first and second clip members further includes generally parallel spaced sides, the first clip member first and second slots extending laterally through the first clip member from one side to the other, and
- the second clip member first and second slots extending laterally through the second clip member from one side to the other,
- the guide means comprising:
- first shoulder means on the first flange member spaced on both sides of the first clip member to engage each of said first clip member sides and restrict lateral sliding movement of the first clip member along the flange member, and
- second shoulder means on the second flange member spaced on both sides of the second clip member to engage each of said second clip member sides and restrict lateral sliding movement of the second clip member along the second flange member.
- 20. The combination as claimed in claim 1 wherein each of the first and second flange members includes a forward end remote from the distal end,
- the first and second frame members each being formed from metal and further comprising an elongate support member and web means,
- the first frame member web means joining the forward end of the first flange member to the first frame member support member, with the second frame member web means joining the forward end of the second flange member to the second frame member support member.
- 21. The combination as claimed in claim 1 wherein the first frame engaging hook portion extends substantially to the forward end of the first central portion.
- 22. The combination as claimed in claim 1 wherein said seating frame is an automobile seating frame.
