Claims
- 1. A sprinkler system comprising:
a sprinkler comprising:
a body portion having a substantially hollow central portion for allowing water to pass therethrough, the hollow central portion extending from a distal end to a proximate end of the body portion; and a housing connected to the sprinkler, the housing comprising:
at least one outer wall; and a cover portion transverse with the at least one outer wall which defines an interior space; wherein the sprinkler is at least partially located within the interior space.
- 2. The system of claim 1, wherein the housing is integral with the sprinkler.
- 3. The system of claim 1, wherein the housing is removably connected to the sprinkler.
- 4. The system of claim 1, wherein the housing further comprises a lip outwardly extending from a distal portion of the outer wall, and the at least one outer wall defines at least one opening.
- 5. The system of claim 1, wherein the fire sprinkler and housing are injection molded.
- 6. The system of claim 5, wherein the fire sprinkler and housing are plastic.
- 7. The system of claim 1, wherein the body portion further comprises:
a diffuser head portion located in the vicinity of the distal end of the hollow central portion; a sealing member made of an elastomeric material in proximity to the hollow central portion; and a link portion, wherein when the link reaches a predetermined temperature the link portion is activated to start the flow of water out of the sprinkler.
- 8. The system of claim 1, wherein the housing is circular, and the proximate portion has a circumference less than or equal to the circumference of the distal portion.
- 9. The system of claim 1, wherein housing further comprises:
at least one opening having a first face and a second face; and an engagement portion adjacent to the first face of the at least one opening.
- 10. A sprinkler housing comprising:
at least one outer wall; and a cover portion transverse with the at least one outer wall which defines an interior space; wherein the at least one outer wall defines at least one opening having a first face for engaging an object applying force against the housing in a first direction, and a second face for engaging an object applying force in a second direction.
- 11. The housing of claim 10, wherein the outer wall is circular.
- 12. The housing of claim 10, wherein the outer wall defines two openings opposite one another.
- 13. The housing of claim 10, wherein a plurality of outer walls provides a polygonal shaped housing.
- 14. The housing of claim 10, further comprising an engagement portion adjacent to the first face of the at least one opening for engaging an object applying force in a third direction.
- 15. A sprinkler device for use with the housing of claim 10, the device comprising:
a distal end; a proximal end; and at least one tab extending from the proximal end for operable engagement with the at least one opening of the housing of claim 10.
- 16. The device of claim 15, wherein the tabs are configured to engage the first face, the second face and the engagement portion of the housing of claim 10.
- 17. The device of claims 15, wherein the distal end is adapted to be removably coupled with a handle.
- 18. A method of making a sprinkler housing comprising:
molding a material by the application of heat and pressure in the form of the housing of claim 10; and solidifying the material.
- 19. The method of claim 18, wherein the material comprises a plastic or a metal.
- 20. The method of claim 18, wherein the material is injection molded.
- 21. A method of making a device for use with a sprinkler system, the method comprising:
molding a material by the application of heat and pressure in the form of a device of claim 15; and solidifying the material.
