Claims
- 1. An emulsion comprising a gas-supersaturated first liquid suspended within a liquid-based carrier.
- 2. The emulsion of claim 1 wherein the carrier is a liquid having lower gas solubility than the first liquid.
- 3. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the gas-supersaturated first liquid is an oxygen supersaturated perfluorochemical.
- 4. The emulsion of claim 1 wherein the emulsion is substantially free of bubbles.
- 5. The emulsion of claim 1 wherein the carrier has a viscosity higher than that of the first liquid.
- 6. The emulsion of claim 5, wherein the viscosity of the carrier is in a range of from about 1 to about 10 centipoise.
- 7. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the carrier is biocompatible.
- 8. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the carrier is insoluble in water.
- 9. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the carrier is glycerin.
- 10. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the carrier is a gel.
- 11. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the carrier is a hydrogel.
- 12. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the carrier is petroleum jelly.
- 13. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the carrier is a paraffin.
- 14. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the carrier is a wax.
- 15. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the carrier is a gelatin.
- 16. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the first liquid is a perfluorochemical.
- 17. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the first liquid is a lipid.
- 18. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the first liquid is a liposome.
- 19. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the first liquid is an oil.
- 20. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the first liquid is an oil selected from the group consisting of mineral oil, coconut oil, and vegetable oil.
- 21. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the first liquid comprises droplets having diameters in the range of from about 0.1 microns to about 10 microns.
- 22. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the first liquid is supersaturated with oxygen.
- 23. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the first liquid is supersaturated with nitrogen.
- 24. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the first liquid is supersaturated with carbon dioxide.
- 25. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the first liquid is supersaturated with one or more gases selected from the group consisting of oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide.
- 26. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the carrier has a lower gas solubility than water.
- 27. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the first liquid has a higher gas solubility than water.
- 28. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the liquid-based carrier consists of a liquid.
- 29. The emulsion of claim 1, wherein the liquid-based carrier comprises solid particles suspended in a liquid.
