Claims
- 1. Porous pipe comprising a hollow pipe having a pipe wall containing pores, said pipe wall being formed of a thermoplastic, linear, low density polyethylene binder resin having Melt Index below 1 and a Melt Flow Ratio above about 50, said resin containing a dispersion of about 60% to about 80% by weight of vulcanized, elastomeric particles and said binder resin containing a dispersion of about 0.1% to about 10% by weight of an ultraviolet stabilizer in an amount effective to substantially reduce degradation of the resin due to ultraviolet radiation.
- 2. Porous pipe according to claim 1 in which the elastomer particles are present in an amount from 60% to 70% by weight.
- 3. Porous pipe according to claim 2 in which the elastomer particles are uniformly sized and the particles pass a 30 mesh screen.
- 4. Porous pipe according to claim 1 in which the ultraviolet stabilizer is selected from carbon black, phenols, amines or mixtures thereof.
- 5. Porous pipe according to claim 4 in which the stabilizer is carbon black.
- 6. An extrudable composition for forming porous pipe comprising, a major amount of discrete, vulcanized elastomer particles having a moisture content below about 0.5% by weight, a minor amount of thermoplastic, linear, low density polyethylene binder resin having a Melt Index below 1 and a Melt Flow Ratio above about 50 and about 0.1 to about 10% by weight of an ultraviolet stabilizer.
- 7. A composition according to claim 6 in which the stabilizer is carbon black.
- 8. A composition according to claim 7 in which the carbon black is predispersed in a carrier resin miscible with polyethylene containing 30 to 50 parts by weight of carbon black.
- 9. A composition according to claim 8 in which the carrier resin is polyethylene.
