Claims
- 1. An earthen work structure comprising, in combination:
- a plurality of equally sized, facing blocks, each having a rectangular front wall, a back wall, opposite side walls, a top, a bottom and a bore at least partially through the block between the top and bottom; selected facing blocks having a planar back wall;
- a second block with a planar wall fitted against the back wall of a facing block, said second block including a top and bottom with a bore at least partially through the block between the top and bottom and also including a pattern of slots in the top or bottom;
- a connector for holding the facing block and second block together, said connector extending into the respective bores of said facing block and second block;
- a stabilizing tensile member including at least two spaced, longitudinal tensile rods and at least one cross rod connecting the tensile rods, at least a portion of said tensile rods positioned in the slots in the second block; and
- compacted soil, said tensile rods extending into the soil and engaged therewith at least partially by friction.
- 2. An earthen work structure, comprising, in combination:
- a plurality of facing blocks arrayed in courses, said blocks including a front wall, a back wall, opposite side walls, a top and a bottom, at least one recess in the top or bottom, said recess extending through the back wall, and a bore into the block located in the recess, and projecting into the block;
- a stabilizing element including a connection member positioned in the recess and extending outwardly from the back wall,
- a pin through the stabilizing connection member extending into the block bore to attach the connection member to the block;
- compacted soil, said stabilizing element further including a tensile member connected to the connection member, said tensile member extending into the compacted soil and engaged therewith at least partially by friction.
- 3. The structure of claim 2 wherein the recess diverges from the front wall through the back wall.
- 4. The structure of claim 2 wherein the pin comprises an extension of the connection member.
- 5. The structure of claim 2 wherein the stabilizing element comprises two, spaced parallel tensile rods connected by a cross rod in the compacted soil, said tensile rods each positioned in the block recess.
- 6. The structure of claim 2 wherein the wherein the stabilizing element comprises a plate within the recess and a pair of spaced tensile rods connected to the plate extending into the compacted soil.
- 7. The structure of claim 2 wherein the stabilizing element comprises a plate within the recess extending into the compacted soil.
