Claims
- 1. A composition of matter, comprising an inorganic porous metal oxide having wall portions defining mesopore-sized channels having a mean diameter of between about 15 Å and about 100 Å and a narrow diameter distribution of less than or equal to about 30 Å, said material having a void volume from said mesopore-sized channels of at least about 0.1 cc/g, and aluminum deposited on said inorganic porous material, at least about 60% wt. of said aluminum being tetrahydrally coordinated with said inorganic composition wherein said material has a short range order.
- 2. A composition of matter according to claim 1, wherein the inorganic porous material is characterized by a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum consisting essentially of a single band centered at about 50 ppm.
- 3. A composition of matter according to claim 1, wherein said inorganic porous material is silica.
- 4. A composition of matter according to claim 3, wherein said silica and aluminum are present in amounts sufficient to provide a ratio of Si/Al of less than or equal to about 500.
- 5. A composition of matter according to claim 1, wherein said inorganic porous material has a surface area of at least about 500 m2/g.
- 6. A composition of matter according to claim 1, wherein said inorganic porous material has a surface area of at least about 800 m2/g.
