The present invention relates generally to flooring components, more specifically but not by way of limitation, a stair nosing wherein the stair nosing of the present invention is pre-fabricated and manufactured from wood having an outer edge design that facilitates improved and efficient installation thereof.
As is known in the art, there are numerous types of materials utilized for flooring in both commercial and residential buildings. By way of example but not limitation these floor material types include tile, vinyl and wood. The latter floor type, wood, is quite popular in residential homes and is available in numerous styles, colors and types of wood. These wood floors typically are provided in tongue and groove planks and are either nailed or adhered to the floor. For some applications the wood floors are installed in a manner referred to as a floating floor wherein the planks are not secured to the sub-floor.
One issue when installing wood floors concerns installation of the wood floors on the stairs. The treads of the stairs terminate such that the edge of the planks are exposed. In order provide a cosmetically desirable installation of the wood floors, the installer will utilizing a stair nosing on the edge of the tread that provides coverage of the exposed edge of the wood plank and creates a desirable appearance. Currently, flooring producers manufacture the nosing out of the floor material. The floor material is very difficult to cut making it hard to create a proper looking nosing. Additionally, when making the nosing out of the flooring material production of fine sawdust is created which can be dangerous to inhale for the installer of the floor. This process is expensive and further requires a great deal of expertise in both cutting of the nose from the floor material and subsequent staining to ensure all exposed areas match the color of the floor.
Accordingly, there is a need for a pre-fabricated wood stair nosing wherein the wood stair nosing includes all of the necessary outer edge elements so as to operably couple with wood floors and a stair tread and wherein the stair nosing of the present invention can be easily stained or painted.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a stair nosing operable to be placed on treads of stair in conjunction with wood floors wherein the stair nosing of the present invention includes four embodiments.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a stair nosing that is manufactured from wood and provided in a length that can be cut to achieve the required length for installation wherein the body of the present invention includes a front edge that is provided both in a flat formation as well as a curved bullnose formation.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a stair nosing operable to be placed on treads of stair in conjunction with wood floors wherein the body of the present invention includes a lower inset portion configured to engage a portion of a tread of a stair.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a stair nosing that is manufactured from wood and provided in a length that can be cut to achieve the required length for installation wherein the body includes an upper inset portion that is configured to be mateably coupled to an edge of a floor plank.
An additional object of the present invention is to provide a stair nosing operable to be placed on treads of stair in conjunction with wood floors wherein the present invention includes an embodiment that further includes a groove inset portion operable to receive a tongue portion of a floor plank.
Yet a further object of the present invention is to provide a stair nosing that is manufactured from wood and provided in a length that can be cut to achieve the required length for installation wherein the body is manufactured from wood that is easy to stain or paint.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a stair nosing operable to be placed on treads of stair in conjunction with wood floors wherein the present invention is manufactured an provided to floor installer to be cut to a required length.
To the accomplishment of the above and related objects the present invention may be embodied in the form illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
