Claims
- 1. A stand-off device for use in a wellbore comprising an inner tubular and an outer tubular to prevent said inner tubular from contacting the side of a wellbore or the side of said outer tubular whereby an annulus is formed between said inner tubular and the side of the wellbore or the outer tubular, said tubular being operable for containing and transmitting fluid flow in a first direction such that fluid flow in an opposite direction occurs through the annulus for circulating fluid within the wellbore, the stand-off device comprising:a sleeve adapted to fit around said first tubular, the sleeve having an outer surface; and blades extending along the outer surface of the sleeve so as to be positioned within the annulus, wherein each blade has a bearing surface, and wherein each bearing surface is curved longitudinally with respect to an axis of the sleeve, wherein the stand-off device is made of a suitable first material, and wherein the bearing surface is made of a second suitable material different from the first suitable material.
- 2. The stand-off device of claim 1, wherein the stand-off device is made of a suitable material, and wherein the suitable material comprises rubber.
- 3. The stand-off device of claim 1, wherein the stand-off device is made of a suitable material, and wherein the suitable material comprises phenolic.
- 4. The stand-off device of claim 1, wherein the stand-off device is made of a suitable material, and wherein the suitable material comprises plastic.
- 5. The stand-off device of claim 1, wherein the stand-off device is made of a suitable material, and wherein the suitable material comprises a polyurethane.
- 6. The stand-off device of claim 1, wherein the blades comprise a spiral configuration.
- 7. The stand-off device of claim 1, wherein the blades comprise a slanted configuration.
- 8. The stand-off device of claim 1, wherein the stand-off device is formed by injection mold.
- 9. The stand-off device of claim 1, further comprising the stand-off device being comprised of metal and also comprising a coating over the bearing surface.
- 10. The stand-off device of claim 9, wherein the metal comprises aluminum.
- 11. The stand-off device of claim 9, wherein the metal comprises steel.
- 12. The stand-off device of claim 9, wherein the coating comprises nylon.
- 13. The stand-off device of claim 9, wherein the coating comprises ceramic.
- 14. The stand-off device of claim 9, wherein the metal comprises aluminum.
- 15. The stand-off device of claim 1, wherein the bearing surface is curved continuously orthogonally with respect to a longitudinal axis of the sleeve.
- 16. The stand-off device of claim 15, wherein the bearing surface is curved continuously longitudinally from one end of the blade to the other end of the blade to thereby provide an outermost point on each blade for bearing contact with the side of the wellbore or the outer tubular.
- 17. The stand-off device of claim 1, wherein each blade has a lateral length approximately the same as a longitudinal length thereof.
- 18. The stand-off device of claim 1, wherein the total lateral length of the blades covers up to approximately one half of the circumference of the sleeve.
- 19. A stand-off device for use in a wellbore comprising an inner tubular and an outer tubular to prevent said inner tubular from contacting the side of a wellbore or the side of said outer tubular whereby an annulus is formed between said inner tubular and the side of the wellbore or the outer tubular, said inner tubular being operable for containing fluid flow in a first direction such that fluid flow in an opposite direction occurs through the annulus for circulating fluid within the wellbore, the device comprising:a sleeve adapted to fit around said inner tubular, the sleeve comprising an outer surface; and a plurality of blades extending along the outer surface of the sleeve, the blades comprising a bearing surface, wherein the bearing surface of the blades comprises substantially spherical curvature such that the plurality of blades are each curved longitudinally with respect to an axis through the sleeve and the bearing surface is curved continuously orthogonally with respect to the axis to thereby provide an outermost point on each blade for bearing contact with the side of the wellbore or the outer tubular.
- 20. The stand-off device of claim 19, wherein each blade has a lateral length approximately the same as a longitudinal length thereof.
- 21. The stand-off device of claim 19, wherein the bearing surface is curved continuously orthogonally with respect to a longitudinal axis of the sleeve.
- 22. The stand-off device of claim 19, wherein the stand-off device is made of a suitable first material, and wherein the bearing surface is made of a second suitable material different from the first suitable material.
- 23. A stand-off device system for use in a wellbore, said system comprising: an inner tubular operable for containing fluid flow in a first direction; an outer tubular whereby an annulus is formed between the inner tubular and the outer tubular, said annulus being operable for containing fluid flow in an opposite direction from said first direction for circulating fluid within the wellbore,a sleeve adapted to fit around the first tubular, the sleeve comprising an outer surface; and a plurality of blades extending along the outer surface of the sleeve, the blades comprising a bearing surface, wherein the bearing surface of the blades comprises substantially spherical curvature such that the plurality of blades are each curved longitudinally with respect to an axis through the sleeve and the bearing surface is curved continuously orthogonally with respect to the axis to thereby provide an outermost point on each blade for bearing contact with the side of the wellbore or the outer tubular.
