Claims
- 1. In an agricultural machine for placing materials into the ground, the improvement comprising:
a plurality of openers for depositing materials into the ground as the machine advances; delivery mechanism for delivering materials to the openers from a common source of supply; a plurality of interchangeable bulk materials containers; and a standardized receiver adapted to interchangeably receive a selected container and position the same to discharge materials into the mechanism for distribution to the openers.
- 2. In an agricultural machine as claimed in claim 1,
said receiver including a support frame for underlying the container and locating structure for engaging side portions of the container.
- 3. In an agricultural machine as claimed in claim 2,
said support frame having a plurality of intersecting frame members that cooperate to define a central open region through which the container communicates with the delivery mechanism, said locating structure projecting upwardly from said frame.
- 4. In an agricultural machine as claimed in claim 3,
said structure comprising upright, generally L-shaped corner brackets configured to generally matingly receive and confine corresponding corners of the container.
- 5. In an agricultural machine as claimed in claim 1,
said delivery mechanism being operable to deliver materials using positive pressure air streams.
- 6. In an agricultural machine, the improvement comprising:
a plurality of openers for depositing materials in the ground as the machine advances; mechanism for delivering materials to the openers from a common source of supply; and a standardized receiver adapted to receive a selected one of a plurality of interchangeable bulk materials containers and position the same for discharging its contents into the delivery mechanism.
- 7. In an agricultural machine as claimed in claim 6,
said receiver including a support frame for underlying the container and locating structure for engaging side portions of the container.
- 8. In an agricultural machine as claimed in claim 7,
said support frame having a plurality of intersecting frame members that cooperate to define a central open region through which the container communicates with the delivery mechanism, said locating structure projecting upwardly from said frame.
- 9. In an agricultural machine as claimed in claim 8,
said structure comprising upright, generally L-shaped corner brackets configured to generally matingly receive and confine corresponding corners of the container.
- 10. In an agricultural machine as claimed in claim 6,
said delivery mechanism being operable to deliver materials using positive pressure air streams.
- 11. A method of planting comprising the steps of:
supporting a first bulk container of materials on a mobile frame for over-the-ground transport; delivering materials from the first container to a plurality of ground-engaging openers; removing the first container from the frame; replacing the first container with a second bulk container of materials; and delivering materials from the second container to the openers.
- 12. A method as claimed in claim 11,
said delivering steps including discharging materials from the bottom of the containers.
- 13. A method as claimed in claim 12,
said delivering steps further including conveying materials to the openers using positive pressure air streams.
- 14. A method as claimed in claim 11,
said delivering steps including conveying materials to the openers using positive pressure air streams.
