Claims
- 1. A steering and braking control system for a vehicle with a steering column having a longitudinally extending axis defined by a steering shaft that is connected to a steering mechanism of a vehicle, said vehicle also having a brake pedal connected to a braking mechanism of the vehicle, said control system comprising:(a) a steering member having first and second arms, said first arm having first and second ends and said second arm having first and second ends; (b) a pivotal member having first and second ends with said first end thereof having means for connecting to said second ends of said first and second arms of said steering member and said second end thereof having means for connecting to said steering shaft; (c) a sleeve slidably mounted about the steering shaft, said sleeve having first and second ends with the first end thereof connected to said first and second arms of said steering member; and (d) a force translating mechanism having first and second ends, said first end thereof having means for connecting to said second end of said sleeve, and means for connecting said second end of said force translating mechanism to said brake pedal.
- 2. The steering and braking control system according to claim 1, wherein said steering member has jaws on the second ends of said first and second arms.
- 3. The steering and braking control system according to claim 2, wherein said pivotal member has at least first and second legs on said first end of said pivotal member.
- 4. The steering and braking control system according to claim 2, wherein said pivotal member is arranged to have said first and second legs of said first end pivotally connected to said first and second arms of said steering member respectively.
- 5. The steering and braking control system according to claim 4, wherein said sleeve having first and second protruding wings, said first protruding wings having jaws on its first and second ends and said second protruding wings having jaws on its first and second ends.
- 6. The steering and braking control system according to claim 5, wherein said sleeve is arranged to have said first end of said protruding wing coacts with said second end of said first arm of said steering member and said second end of said protruding wing coacts with said second end of said second arm of said steering member.
- 7. A steering and braking control system for a vehicle with a steering column having a longitudinally extending axis defined by a steering shaft, said vehicle having a braking mechanism and a vacuum assist, said control system comprising:(a) a steering member having first and second arms, with said first arm having first and second ends and said second arm having first and second ends; and (b) a master brake cylinder nested within said steering shaft.
- 8. The steering and braking control system according to claim 7, wherein said master brake cylinder further comprises:(a) a hydraulic piston having first and second ends; and (b) a cylinder wall having a bore dimensioned to allow the passage of said hydraulic piston, said cylinder wall having an external and internal wall, said cylinder wall having first and second ends, said first end having means for connecting to said second ends of said first and second arms of said steering wheel, and said first end also having means for connecting to said first end of said hydraulic piston.
- 9. The steering and braking control system according to claim 8, wherein said steering shaft having a well dimensioned to allow the passage of said master brake cylinder, said well having internal wall, said steering shaft having first and second ends, said second end having means for connecting to said braking mechanism.
- 10. The steering and braking control system according to claim 9, wherein said steering shaft having an inner wall with a dimension of said internal wall of said cylinder wall.
- 11. The steering and braking control system according to claim 10, wherein said master brake cylinder having bearing means and having at least one grove along said external wall of said master brake cylinder so that said master brake cylinder is axially movable relative to said steering shaft but restricted from radial movement relative to said steering shaft.
- 12. The steering and braking control system according to claim 11, wherein said master brake cylinder is arranged so that said second end is nested between said second end of said steering shaft and said inner wall of said steering shaft and when said master brake cylinder is moved axially downward within said well of said steering shaft, a space between said second end of said hydraulic piston, said internal wall of said cylinder wall and said second end of said steering shaft decreases thereby displacing fluid to said braking mechanism.
- 13. The steering and braking control system according to claim 12, wherein said master brake cylinder is arranged so that a space between said second end of said cylinder wall, said inner wall of said steering shaft and said second end of said steering shaft having means for connecting to said vacuum assist.
- 14. The steering and braking control system according to claim 13, wherein said master brake cylinder having means for sealing the connection between said second end of said cylinder wall and said inner wall of said steering shaft and said second end of said steering shaft.
