Claims
- 1. A printer for printing out an image formed in a stencil on a sheet, comprising:
- a rotatable drum comprising a hollow cylindrical support constituted by an apertured portion which is formed with a number of apertures and a non-apertured portion, a stencil being wrapped around an outer periphery of said support;
- clamp means provided on said non-apertured portion of said support for clamping one edge of said stencil wrapped around said support;
- ink supply roller means disposed in said support for supplying ink to said stencil via said apertured portion of said support;
- press roller means for pressing a sheet against said stencil; and
- means for selectively urging said press roller means toward said drum such that said press roller means contacts said drum at least 25 mm in advance of a first printing location of said stencil, whereby oscillation of the press roller means resulting from contact of the press roller means with one of the drum and stencil is terminated prior to initiation of printing.
- 2. A printer as claimed in claim 1, wherein said means for urging includes a cam for controlling movement of said press roller means such that said press roller means moves into and out of contact with said drum, said cam including a profile such that movement of said press roller means toward said drum is gradual, thereby reducing oscillation of said press roller means when said press roller means contacts said drum.
- 3. A printer as claimed in claim 1, wherein said press roller means is conductive.
- 4. The printer of claim 1, wherein said means for urging causes said press roller means to contact said drum prior to arrival of a sheet upon which an image is to be formed.
- 5. A printer for printing an image comprising:
- a rotatable drum comprising a hollow cylindrical support including an apertured portion which is formed with a number of apertures and a non-apertured portion, a stencil wrapped around an outer periphery of said support;
- clamp means provided on said non-apertured portion of said support for clamping one edge of said stencil wrapped around said support;
- ink roller means disposed in said support for supplying ink to said stencil via said apertured portion of said support;
- a press roller for pressing a sheet against said stencil, said press roller including a conductive material which contacts said drum when said press roller is urged against said drum; and
- means for urging said press roller against said drum prior to arrival of a sheet upon which an image is to be formed, such that the conductive material of said press roller dissipates any charge on at least one of the drum and the stencil, thereby preventing the sheet from adhering to said stencil as a result of a charge.
