Claims
- 1. A process for preparing the sterically hindered aminohydrocarbylsilane of the formula
- X.sub.3 SiRCR'.sub.2 NR".sub.2
- wherein
- R is a linear or branched saturated or unsaturated divalent hydrocarbon group having 2 to 12 carbon atoms;
- R' is an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms or an aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms;
- R" is a hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, an aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms, or --SiX'.sub.3 wherein X' is an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms; and
- X is an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, an aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms, and alkoxy group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, an aryloxy group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms or a halogen atom, and
- wherein each X, X', R' and R" is the same or different
- comprising:
- reacting a silane having the formula
- X.sub.3 SiH
- wherein X is an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, an aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, an aryloxy group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms, or a halogen atom with the proviso that the halosilane be unreactive with the sterically hindered amine group, and wherein each X is the same of different;
- with a sterically hindered unsaturated amine having the formula
- R'"CR'.sub.2 NR".sub.2
- wherein R' is hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms or an aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms;
- R" is hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, an aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms, or --SiX'.sub.3 wherein X' is an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms; and
- R'" is an acetylenic (--C.ident.CR") or vinylic (--CH.ident.CH.sub.2) group, in the presence of a noble metal catalyst at an elevated temperature.
- 2. A process according to claim 1, wherein R'" is --C.ident.CH.
- 3. A process according to claim 1, wherein R'" is --C.ident.CCH.sub.3.
- 4. A process according to claim 1, wherein R'" is --C.ident.C.phi., wherein .phi. is phenyl.
- 5. A process according to claim 1, wherein R'" is --CH.dbd.CH.sub.2.
- 6. A process according to claim 1, wherein the catalyst is a solution of chloroplatinic acid hexahydrate.
- 7. A process according to claim 6, wherein the solution is 4 wt % chloroplatinic acid hexahydrate dissolved in 25 to 1 parts by weight of 1,2-dimethoxyethane and 2-propanol.
- 8. A process according to claim 1, wherein the temperature ranges from about 50.degree. C. to 160.degree. C.
- 9. A process according to claim 8, wherein the temperature ranges from about 80.degree. C. to 140.degree. C.
