Claims
- 1. A sterilized article within a diffusion-restricted container, said container having an interior with said article therein, said container substantially preventing entry of microorganisms into said interior, and said container comprising at least one diffusion-restricted entry/exit port which permits entry/exit of gas and/or vapor into/out of the container, but prevents entry of microorganisms into the interior, wherein said entry/exit port has a length to internal diameter ratio greater than or equal to 1.1.
- 2. The article within a diffusion-restricted container of claim 1, wherein said entry/exit port comprises a filter therein, said filter substantially preventing entry of said microorganisms into said interior.
- 3. The article within a diffusion-restricted container of claim 1, wherein said entry/exit port is at least 1.0 cm in length.
- 4. The article within a diffusion-restricted container of claim 1, wherein said entry/exit port has an internal diameter of 9 mm or less.
- 5. The article within a diffusion-restricted container of claim 2, wherein said entry/exit port comprises an exit tube.
- 6. The article within a diffusion-restricted container of claim 1, wherein said container retains ability to prevent entry of microorganisms into the interior after treatment with plasma.
- 7. The article within a diffusion-restricted container of claim 1, wherein said container retains ability to prevent entry of microorganisms into the interior after exposure to a temperature of 40° C. or greater.
- 8. The article within a diffusion-restricted container of claim 1, wherein said container retains ability to prevent entry of microorganisms into the interior after exposure to a pressure between 0 and 100 torr.
- 9. The article within a diffusion-restricted container of claim 1, wherein the communication port comprises an air and vapor permeable window which is impermeable to entry of microorganisms.
