Claims
- 1. A collapsible storage divider for a vehicle comprising:
a molded polymeric base defined by a rectangular frame; front and rear walls pivotally mounted to said base; and polymeric end walls each comprising a plurality of sections; over-center hinges joining each section of said end walls; said end walls hingedly mounted to edges of said front and rear walls for collapsing flat as said front and rear walls are folded toward one another to a flat position within said base such that said storage member is substantially flat when folded to a stored position.
- 2. The storage divider as defined in claim 1 wherein said over-center hinge includes an elongated generally U-shaped resilient polymeric spring having edges integrally hingedly coupled to adjacent sides of said end walls.
- 3. The storage divider as defined in claim 2 wherein each of said end walls comprises triangular sections and said over-center hinge further includes a polymeric hinge integrally molded between edges of adjacent sections.
- 4. The storage divider as defined in claim 3 wherein said over-center hinge comprises a pair of spaced-apart polymeric hinges having said spring positioned therebetween.
- 5. The storage divider as defined in claim 4 wherein each of said end walls comprise three triangular sections arranged to form a rectangular panel.
- 6. The storage divider as defined in claim 1 wherein said end walls comprise three triangular sections having over-center hinges joining adjacent sections, said sections coupled to form a foldable rectangular panel.
- 7. The storage divider as defined in claim 1 and further including at least one rigid partition wall pivotally mounted to said base between said front and rear walls.
- 8. The storage divider as defined in claim 7 wherein said inside-facing surfaces of said front and rear walls include aligned opposed arcuate slots and said partition includes tabs which extend into said arcuate slots for guiding said partition as it is moved from a flat stored position adjacent said base to a raised vertical position.
- 9. The storage divider as defined in claim 8 wherein said arcuate slots extend through an angle of about 90°.
- 10. The storage divider as defined in claim 9 wherein said slots terminate in a notch for releasably holding said partition in a vertical position.
- 11. The storage divider as defined in claim 10 including a plurality of partitions.
- 12. The storage divider as defined in claim 11 wherein said base is a tray-like molded polymeric member.
- 13. The storage divider as defined in claim 1 wherein the width of said front and rear walls is selected such that said front and rear walls can be folded into said base between edges of said lip.
- 14. A storage divider comprising:
a base; a cover hingedly mounted to said base for movement between the stored position substantially parallel and overlying said base and a use position rotated substantially orthogonal to said base; a pair of collapsible sidewalls pivotally coupled to said cover on a surface of said cover facing said base; and a front wall pivotally coupled to said collapsible sidewalls such that said front wall and said sidewalls can be moved between a position substantially flush and adjacent an inner surface of said cover to an extended position substantially remote from said cover and extending away from said base.
- 15. The storage divider as defined in claim 14 wherein said base comprises a rectangular frame.
- 16. The storage divider as defined in claim 14 wherein said sidewalls comprise a pair of rectangular panels hingedly joined at their center for collapsing from a substantially planar position to a substantially overlying position.
- 17. The storage divider as defined in claim 16 and further including at least one kick-out spring for urging said sidewalls toward said extended position.
- 18. The storage divider as defined in claim 16 wherein said front wall includes posts at its lowermost corners and said base includes a frame having sockets for receiving posts such that said storage divider can be locked in an open position for use.
- 19. A storage divider comprising:
a base; a cover hingedly mounted to said base for movement between the stored position substantially parallel and overlying said base and a use position rotated substantially orthogonal to said base; a pair of collapsible sidewalls hingedly coupled to said cover; and a front wall having a width less than the width of said base hingedly coupled at opposite ends to said collapsible sidewalls such that said front wall and said sidewalls can be moved between a position substantially flush and adjacent said inner surface of said cover to an extended position substantially orthogonal to said base and subsequently translated to a position remote from said cover to define a storage area overlying a section of said base.
- 20. The storage divider as defined in claim 19 wherein said sidewalls comprise a pair of rectangular panels hingedly joined at opposite edges to said cover and to said front walls, respectively.
- 21. The storage divider as defined in claim 20 wherein each of said sidewalls has a width such that the width of one of said sidewalls when combined with the width of said front wall does not exceed the width of said base thereby allowing said front wall and sidewalls to nest within said base when in a collapsed stored position.
- 22. The storage divider as defined in claim 19 and further including at least one kick-out spring for urging said sidewalls toward said extended position.
- 23. The storage divider as defined in claim 22 wherein said base is molded of a polymeric material.
- 24. The storage divider as defined in claim 19 wherein said base comprises a rectangular frame.
- 25. A storage unit for a seat back comprising:
a frame for mounting to a seat back; a cover hingedly mounted to said frame for movement between a stored position substantially flush with said frame and a use position rotated substantially orthogonal to said frame; a pair of collapsible sidewall panels pivotally coupled to said cover on opposite edges thereof; and a front panel pivotally coupled to said collapsible sidewall panels such that said front wall and said sidewall panels can be moved between a position substantially flush and adjacent an inner surface of said cover to an extended position substantially remote from said cover and extending away from said frame.
- 26. The storage unit as defined in claim 25 wherein said sidewall panels comprise a pair of generally rectangular panels hingedly joined at their center for collapsing from a substantially planar position to a substantially overlying position.
- 27. The storage unit as defined in claim 26 and further including at least one kick-out spring for urging said sidewall panels toward said extended position.
- 28. A seat and storage assembly comprising:
a seat and a seat back pivotally mounted to said seat for movement from an upright position to a substantially horizontal position: a frame mounted to said seat back; a cover hingedly mounted to said frame for movement between a stored position substantially flush with said frame and a use position rotated substantially orthogonal to said frame; a pair of collapsible sidewalls pivotally coupled to said cover on opposite edges thereof; and a front panel pivotally coupled to said collapsible sidewalls such that said front wall and said sidewalls can be moved between a position substantially flush and adjacent an inner surface of said cover to an extended position substantially remote from said cover and extending away from said frame.
- 29. The seat and storage assembly as defined in claim 28 wherein said sidewalls comprise a pair of generally rectangular panels hingedly joined at their center for collapsing from a substantially planar position to a substantially overlying position.
- 30. The seat and storage assembly as defined in claim 29 and further including at least one kick-out spring for urging said sidewalls toward said extended position.
