Claims
- 1. A package for storage of a coring reamer comprising a body having a closed distal end and a proximal end having a first opening closeable by a cap, said cap having a second opening extending therethrough, the second opening in said cap having a non-circular portion configured to non-rotatably receive a proximal portion of a coring reamer therein.
- 2. The package of claim 1, wherein the body is transparent.
- 3. The package of claim 1, wherein the cap further comprises a gripping surface.
- 4. The package of claim 3 wherein the gripping surface comprises an enlarged periphery.
- 5. The package of claim 4, wherein the enlarged periphery comprises at least two concave surfaces facilitating gripping thereof.
- 6. The package of claim 1, wherein the non-circular portion of the coring reamer is hexagonal.
- 7. The package of claim 6, wherein the proximal portion of the coring reamer is hexagonal.
- 8. The package of claim 5, wherein the at least two concave surfaces comprise four concave surfaces.
- 9. The package of claim 1, further including a plunger having a stem sized to slide through a passage through a coring reamer received in the second opening.
- 10. A method of storing and using a coring reamer comprising:
(a) providing a cylindrical tube having a closed distal end and an open proximal end closeable with a cap; (b) providing the cap with an opening therethrough configured to receive a coring reamer so that the coring reamer is non-rotatably received within the opening of the cap; and (c) placing a coring reamer within the tube by attaching a predetermined portion of the coring reamer to the cap opening to thereby suspend the coring reamer in the tube in a cantilevered manner.
- 11. A method according to claim 10 further comprising:
(d) providing the coring reamer with a tool attachment portion accessible from an extension of the tube; and (e) attaching a tool to the tool attachment portion.
- 12. A method according to claim 11 further comprising:
(f) attaching the tool to a handpiece to rotate the coring reamer to form a bone core therein; and (g) removing the coring reamer from the tube and forming a bone core within the coring reamer.
- 13. A method according to claim 12 further comprising:
(h) reattaching the coring reamer, with the bone core, to the tube and cap opening in a cantilevered manner; (i) inserting a plunger through a proximal end of the coring reamer through a passageway of the coring reamer to push a bone core from a distal end of the coring reamer; and (j) pulling the plunger from the coring reamer so the coring reamer and bone core remain within the cylindrical tube.
- 14. A method according to claim 10, wherein the opening in the cap receives a distal portion of a proximal coupling attached to the coring reamer.
- 15. A method according to claim 10, further comprising attaching the coring reamer to a handpiece to rotate the coring reamer to form a bone core therein.
- 16. A method according to claim 15, further comprising reattaching the coring reamer with the bone core to the tube and cap opening in a cantilevered manner, inserting a plunger through a proximal end of the coring reamer through a passageway of the coring reamer to push a bone core from a distal end of the coring reamer and pulling the plunger from the coring reamer so the coring reamer and bone core remain within the cylindrical tube.
