Claims
- 1. A method of ejecting stores from an aircraft using a gas as the source of energy and the transfer mechanism, the method comprising:
releasably retaining at least one store with at least one pneumatically-driven jettison mechanism; releasably connecting an on-board pressure vessel of pressurized non-pyrotechnic gas to a pressure regulator; releasing a releasable seal of the pressure vessel such that the pressure vessel is fluidly connected to the pressure regulator; configuring the pressure regulator to an open configuration such that the gas flows from the pressure vessel to at least one accumulator fluidly connected to the pressure regulator; and actuating a dump valve fluidly connected to one of the accumulators to an open position to fluidly connect the respective accumulator to one of the jettison mechanisms such that the gas flows from the respective accumulator to the respective jettison mechanism and thereby actuates the respective jettison mechanism to jettison a respective store.
- 2. A method of ejecting stores according to claim 1, wherein said configuring step comprises actuating the pressure regulator to fluidly connect the pressure vessel to the accumulator such that the accumulator is pressurized to a specified operating pressure.
- 3. A method of ejecting stores according to claim 1, further comprising prior to said connecting step pressurizing the pressure vessel and hermetically sealing the pressure vessel with the releasable seal.
- 4. A method of ejecting stores according to claim 1, wherein said releasing step comprises destructively releasing a burst portion of the releasable seal.
- 5. A method of ejecting stores according to claim 4, wherein said releasing step is performed during said connecting step.
- 6. A method of ejecting stores according to claim 1, further comprising releasing the pressure vessel from the pressure regulator subsequent to said actuating step, and subsequently repressurizing the pressure vessel and repeating said connecting, releasing, configuring, and actuating steps.
- 7. A method of ejecting stores according to claim 1, further comprising configuring the pressure regulator to the open configuration when at least one of the accumulators requires pressurization to attain the specified operating pressure and configuring the pressure regulator to an off configuration when the specified operating pressure is attained.
- 8. A method of ejecting stores according to claim 1, further comprising opening a relief valve fluidly connected to one of the accumulators to vent the gas from the respective accumulator when an over-pressure condition is detected in the respective accumulator or when it is desired to disarm a respective jettison mechanism.
- 9. A method of ejecting stores according to claim 1, wherein said retaining step comprises releasably retaining each store with at least one hook and wherein said actuating step comprises actuating the at least one hook to an open position to release a respective store.
- 10. A method of ejecting stores according to claim 1, wherein said actuating step comprises fluidly connecting the respective accumulator to at least one ejector piston such that the gas flowing from the respective accumulator actuates the at least one ejector piston to jettison the respective store.
