Claims
- 1. A vehicle having an inverted U-shaped frame defining an elongated container carrying bay between first and second legs with each leg of said U-shaped vehicle having a plurality of ground engaging wheels, first and second engines respectively supported on respective legs of said vehicles; first drive means between said first engine and at least one wheel on said first leg; second drive means between said second engine and at least one wheel on said second leg; first and second pairs of pumps respectively driven by said first and second engines; a hydraulic power steering system for turning said wheels with one of said first pair of pumps supplying fluid thereto; a spreader; hoisting fluid ram means supporting said spreader for vertical movement in said bay with at least one of said pumps supplying fluid; a plurality of fluid rams on said spreader for performing a plurality of control functions to connect a container thereto with one of said second pair of pumps supplying fluid thereto; and interconnection means for selectively connecting both said power steering system and said plurality of fluid rams to one pump when one engine fails.
- 2. A vehicle as defined in claim 1, in which said hoisting fluid ram means includes a first fluid ram on said first leg with said first ram connected to one end of said spreader, said first fluid ram having fluid supplied thereto from one of said first pair of pumps, and a second fluid ram on said second leg with said second fluid ram connected to an opposite end of said spreader, said second fluid ram having fluid supplied thereto from one of said second pair of pumps, and in which said interconnecting means includes means for connecting both said fluid rams to one pump.
- 3. A vehicle as defined in claim 2, in which said first and second fluid rams are connected in parallel to one pump by said interconnecting means.
- 4. A vehicle as defined in claim 1, in which each of said drive means includes a drive pump connected to an engine and at least one drive motor driven by said drive pump and connected to a wheel on a leg of said vehicle.
- 5. A vehicle as defined in claim 1, in which said power steering system and said plurality of fluid rams are connected in series to one pump by said interconnection means.
- 6. A vehicle as defined in claim 1, in which said interconnecting means includes a maintenance board with first and second steering conduits leading from said steering system to said maintenance board, a return conduit leading from said maintenance board to said reservoir, a supply conduit leading from said one of said first pair of pumps to said maintenance board, and quick disconnect coupling means normally connecting said return conduit and said supply conduit respectively to said first and second steering conduits, said quick disconnect coupling means being connectable to said plurality of fluid rams to operate said plurality of fluid rams from said one of said first pair of pumps.
- 7. A vehicle as defined in claim 6, further including first and second spreader conduits between said plurality of spreader fluid rams and said maintenance board with valve means in said spreader conduits controlling flow of fluid, a second supply conduit leading from said one of said second pair of pumps to said maintenance board, a second return conduit leading from said maintenance board to said reservoir and second quick disconnect coupling means normally connecting said second supply conduit and said second return conduit to said spreader conduits.
- 8. A vehicle as defined in claim 7, in which said hoisting fluid ram means includes first and second separate hoisting circuits on respective legs of said frame, each hoisting circuit including a hoisting fluid ram connected to a second pump and said reservoir through hoist conduit means with said hoisting conduit means having hoisting valve means therein.
- 9. A vehicle as defined in claim 8 further including branch conduit means leading from the respective hoist conduit means to said maintenance board and additional quick disconnect coupling means for interconnecting the respective hoist conduit means so that both said hoist fluid rams can have fluid supplied thereto from one pump.
- 10. A vehicle as defined in claim 9, in which each of said drive means includes a drive pump and a pair of drive motors respectively driven by said drive pump with each drive motor driving a separate wheel on one leg of said frame.
- 11. A vehicle as defined in claim 10, in which each leg of said frame has four longitudinally spaced wheels and said drive motors are connected to the two intermediate wheels.
