Claims
- 1. Method of crimping a textile strand, comprising nipping said textile strand from opposite sides in the vicinity of the entrance to a strand-confining region having an exit therefrom and thereby feeding the strand toward the entrance, and jetting fluid onto the strand between the nipping location and the entrance in an oblique downstream direction, confining said jetted fluid between said jetting step and said region, and thereby forwarding the strand into the entrance to the confining region, and confining the strand from the jetting step to the confining region, and releasing said jetted fluid downstream of its confinement.
- 2. Strand-crimping according to claim 1, wherein the confining region has a straight-through bore from entrance to exit and has a foraminous diffusion portion extending circumferentially at the exit and upstream therefrom in the vicinity thereof, and further including the step of diffusing said jetted fluid through said portion.
- 3. Strand-crimping according to claim 1, wherein the jet-forwarding step comprises applying jets of fluid to opposite sides of the strand obliquely relative to one another and to the downstream direction immediately downstream of the nipping location.
- 4. Strand-crimping according to claim 1, including the step of drawing the strand to increased length immediately upstream of the nip-feeding step.
- 5. Strand-crimping according to claim 4, wherein the strand is underfed from the drawing step to the nip-feeding step.
- 6. Method of treating a textile strand comprising feeding said textile strand by application of fluid thereto into the entrance of a laterally confining region having an exit therefrom to impact upon an accumulation of such strand accumulated temporarily therein, confining said strand within said region, the region having a straight-through bore from entrance to exit and a foraminous diffusion portion for the forwarding fluid extending circumferentially at the exit and upstream therefrom in the vicinity thereof, and diffusing said fluid through said portion.
- 7. Strand-crimping according to claim 6, including the step of jetting fluid onto such strand and into the entrance of the region.
- 8. Strand-crimping according to claim 7, including the step of nipping the strand from opposite sides immediately upstream of the fluid jetting step.
- 9. Strand-crimping according to claim 8, including the step of drawing the strand to increased length immediately upstream of the nipping step.
- 10. Draw-crimping of a textile strand, comprising drawing a textile strand to increased length, then directing fluid thereonto and thereby forwardly the drawn strand into the entrance of a laterally confining region having an exit for the strand therefrom and accumulating the strand in the region temporarily, the entering strand being forwarded into sufficiently forcible impact against strand already accumulated therein to buckle into crimped configuration, and diffusing the forwarding fluid laterally from the region.
