Claims
- 1. A solar greenhouse construction comprising glazing, support means to support said glazing in a combination to define an at least partly enclosed space, said glazing being permeable to solar radiation to allow said radiation to pass into said space, and shade means in said space and adapted for being positioned adjacent at least part of said glazing to intercept at least part of the radiation passing through said glazing, said support means being provided with at least one track channel in which the shade means in engaged and by which the shade means is guided along said glazing, said solar greenhouse construction further comprising a horizontal base sill including a sloped upper wall and a vertical wall extending along and upwardly from the sloped wall to define a moisture drain therewith, said support means including vertical bars supporting said glazing and including angled lower extremities accommodated in the drain formed by said sloped upper wall and vertical wall, said lower extremities and drain having matching profiles.
- 2. A solar greenhouse construction as claimed in claim 1 wherein said sill further includes a base, and inner and outer walls extending upwardly from said base and defining with said upper wall an internal chamber, said upper wall extending in cantilever manner from said outer wall and terminating short of said inner wall to define a slot therewith through which at least a part of the shade means can pass into said internal chamber.
- 3. A solar greenhouse construction as claimed in claim 2 comprising generally horizontal cap members covering said drain and extending between said bars, said cap members including brake-away sections covering said slot at least in part, said bars extending downwardly past said cap members and including lateral walls each provided with one said track channel opening into said internal chamber.
- 4. A solar greenhouse construction as claimed in claim 3 wherein said bars are hollow members each including two said lateral walls and inner and outer walls extending between the lateral walls and forming inner and outer corners therewith, said bars including internal thickened portions located at said inner corners and defining in part said channels, said channels having relatively small mouths opening through said lateral walls in the form of vertical slots and defining reentrant angles in said lateral walls and thickened portions.
- 5. A solar greenhouse construction as claimed in claim 4 wherein said inner walls are each provided with a vertical slot between said channels, said vertical slot being bounded by screw threaded walls whereby to facilitate engagement by an attachment member.
- 6. A solar greenhouse construction as claimed in claim 4 wherein said base sill is provided with at least one internal horizontal groove constituting drainage channel.
- 7. A solar greenhouse construction as claimed in claim 4 wherein said base sill includes a second outer wall spaced from the first said outer wall and constituting a facing, a thermal-break member connecting the outer walls together, said glazing being accommodated between said vertical wall and said second outer wall, and a resilient gasket member between the glazing and second outer wall.
- 8. A solar greenhouse construction as claimed in claim 7 wherein said outer walls include respective protrusions extending towards each other and defining facing grooves into which said thermal-break member extends, said protrusions having upper sufaces cooperatively constituting a platform for supporting said glazing, and a padding strip on the platform, said glazing resting on said padding strip.
- 9. A solar greenhouse construction as claimed in claim 8 wherein the facing grooves have reentrant angles in said outer walls and wherein the thermal-break member has a cross-section generally in the shape of a Maltese cross having horizontal arms accommodated in respective of the facing grooves.
- 10. A solar greenhouse construction as claimed in claim 8 wherein the outer walls and protrusions cooperatively define a downwardly opening chamber, said construction further comprising a flashing member partly accommodated in the latter said chamber and extending outwardly therefrom.
- 11. A solar greenhouse construction as claimed in claim 4 comprising a plurality of coaxially aligned rollers in the internal chamber of said sill and rollers being respectively located between respective pairs of said vertical bars, said shade means including a plurality of shades respectively coupled to said rollers.
- 12. A solar greenhouse construction as claimed in claim 11 comprising motors within and driving said rollers.
- 13. A solar greenhouse construction as claimed in claim 12 comprising means responsive to an ambient condition to operate said motors.
- 14. A solar greenhouse construction as claimed in claim 4 comprising a roller in said internal chamber of the sill and extending past a plurality of said vertical bars, said shade means including shades between the latter said vertical bars, said shades being coupled to said rollers.
- 15. A solar greenhouse construction as claimed in claim 14 comprising a motor within and driving said roller.
- 16. A solar greenhouse construction as claimed in claim 15 comprising means responsive to an ambient condition to operate said motor.
