Claims
- 1. A wall structure comprising a foundation having a substantially planar and horizontal upper surface, a metal strip attached to and extending upwardly from the upper surface of said foundation, a plurality of blocks arranged in a first course, each of said blocks having a top, a bottom, two opposed ends and two opposed major surfaces, said metal strip being received in a groove in the bottom of each of said blocks of the first course, and said blocks being so shaped that each of the opposed ends of interior ones thereof is in close fitting, abutting relationship with an end of an adjacent one of said blocks, and each of the major surfaces thereof is substantially coplanar with the corresponding major surface of the others of said blocks in the first course, said metal strip being effective to lock said blocks of the first course against lateral movement relative thereto.
- 2. A wall structure as claimed in claim 1 wherein the end of each of said blocks which is in close fitting, abutting relationship with the end of an adjacent one of said blocks is locked to the adjacent one of said blocks by a tongue which is integral with the end of one of the two and is received in a groove in the end of the other.
- 3. A wall structure as claimed in claim 2 which additionally includes a second metal strip received in a groove in the top of each of said blocks of the first course, and a plurality of blocks arranged in a second course, each of said blocks in the second course having a top, a bottom, two opposed ends and two opposed major surfaces, said second metal strip being received in a groove in the bottom of each of said blocks of the second course, and said blocks of the second course being so shaped that each of the opposed ends of interior ones thereof is in close fitting, abutting relationship with an end of an adjacent one of said blocks of the second course, and each of the major surfaces thereof is substantially coplanar with the corresponding major surface of the others of said blocks in the second course and with the corresponding major surfaces of said blocks of the first course, said second metal strip being effective to lock said blocks of the second course against lateral movement relative thereto and relative to said blocks of the first course.
- 4. A wall structure as claimed in claim 3 wherein the end of each of said blocks of the second course which is in close fitting, abutting relationship with the end of an adjacent one of said blocks is locked to the adjacent one of said blocks by a tongue which is integral with the end of one of the two and is received in a groove in the end of the other.
- 5. A wall structure as claimed in claim 1 wherein each of said blocks is composed of a concrete portion and a closed cell, urethane foam portion, the concrete portion of each of said blocks constitutes parts of the top, of the bottom and of the two opposed ends, and one of the two major surfaces thereof and extends interiorly of said block from that major surface, and the urethane portion of each of said blocks constitutes the rest of the top, of the bottom and of the two opposed ends, and the second of the two major surfaces thereof and extends interiorly of said block from the second of the major surfaces into abutting, close-fitting relationship with the concrete portion.
