Claims
- 1. A reinforced cured bismaleimide structural panel comprising 0.5 to 5 parts by weight of reinforcing fiber dispersed in one part by weight of a cured copolymeric resin, said resin comprising bismaleimide and a 5-vinyl-2-stilbazole of the structure ##STR14## wherein R and R.sup.1 are independently selected from hydrogen, lower alkyls, lower alkoxy, phenyl, chloro, bromo, or iodo, said maleimide being present at from 10 to 2 times the weight amount of said stilbazole.
- 2. The structural panel of claim 1 wherein R and R.sup.1 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyls, lower alkoxy, phenyls, alkyl phenyls of 7 to 9 carbons, chloro, bromo, or iodo.
- 3. The structural panel of claim 2 wherein the reinforcing fiber is selected from carbon fiber, aramide fiber, glass fiber, or boron nitride fiber and wherein said cured polymeric resin comprises 10 parts to 2 parts by weight of bismaleimide per part by weight of vinylstilbazole.
- 4. The structural panel of claim 3 wherein R and R.sup.1 are independently selected from hydrogen or lower alkyls.
- 5. The structural panel of claim 4 wherein one of R and R.sup.1 is hydrogen.
- 6. The structural panel of claim 5 wherein one of R and R.sup.1 is methyl.
- 7. The structural panel of claim 3 wherein R and R.sup.1 are independently selected from hydrogen or lower alkoxy.
- 8. The structural panel of claim 7 wherein one of R and R.sup.1 is hydrogen.
- 9. The structural panel of claim 3 wherein R and R.sup.1 are hydrogen, phenyl, or alkyl phenyls of 7 to 9 carbon atoms.
- 10. The structural panel of claim 1 wherein one of R and R.sup.1 is hydrogen.
- 11. The structural panel of claim 10 wherein one of R and R.sup.1 is phenyl.
- 12. The structural panel of claim 3 wherein R and R.sup.1 are independently selected from hydrogen, chloro, bromo, or iodo.
- 13. The structural panel of claim 12 wherein one of R and R.sup.1 is hydrogen.
- 14. The structural panel of claim 3 wherein R and R.sup.1 are hydrogen.
- 15. The structural panel of claim 14 wherein the reinforcing fiber is carbon fiber.
- 16. The structural panel of claim 15 wherein the reinforcing fiber is aramide fiber.
- 17. A reinforced cured bismaleimide structural panel comprising 0.5 to 5 parts by weight of reinforcing fiber dispersed in one part by weight of a cured copolymeric resin, said resin comprising bismaleimide and a vinyl styrylpyridine oligomer of the structure ##STR15## wherein in the A aromatic rings R.sub.1 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl and the two olefin bonds are attached to the aromatic ring meta or para to one another, and in the B aromatic ring R.sub.2 is a lower alkyl, haloalkyl, or alkoxyl and the two olefin bonds are attached to the B aromatic ring in the 2, 6 or 2, 4 positions, with R.sub.2 in the 4 or 6 position not occupied by an olefin bond, said maleimide being present at from 15 to 1.0 times the weight amount of said vinylstyrylpyridine.
- 18. The structural panel of claim 17 wherein the reinforcing fiber is selected from carbon fiber, aramide fiber, glass fiber, or boron nitride fiber.
- 19. The structural panel of claim 18 wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen.
- 20. The structural panel of claim 18 wherein R.sub.2 is methyl.
- 21. The structural panel of claim 20 wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen.
- 22. The structural panel of claim 16 comprising 10 parts to 2 parts by weight of bismaleimide per part by weight of vinyl styrylpyridine.
- 23. The structural panel of claim 22 wherein the reinforcing fiber is carbon fiber.
- 24. The structural panel of claim 22 wherein the reinforcing fiber is aramide fiber.
