Claims
- 1. A structure for use in a vehicle comprising:
- a vehicle body panel disposed at a front end of a passenger compartment of the vehicle;
- a base member, disposed in said passenger compartment behind said vehicle body panel, extending in a vehicle width direction over substantially an entire width of the vehicle and being fastened to said vehicle body panel;
- an instrument panel covering said base member, said instrument panel being detachably mounted on said base member;
- electric equipment mounted on said base member; and
- a harness disposed on said base member;
- said base member including (1) a plurality of ducts integrally formed therewith, (2) an electric equipment placing portion, on which said electric equipment is mounted, integrally formed therewith, and (3) a harness placing portion, on which the harness is placed, integrally formed with and extending in said vehicle width direction on a rear portion of said base member defined behind said electric equipment placing portion;
- wherein adjacent ducts of said plurality of ducts are partitioned by a single wall and integrally formed with said base member.
- 2. An instrument panel unit according to claim 1, wherein said plurality of ducts includes:
- (1) a front defroster duct having a blow-off port in substantially a center of said base member in the vehicle width direction,
- (2) side ventilation ducts having blow-off ports in both ends of said base member in the vehicle width direction, and
- (3) side defroster ducts disposed at positions closer to the center of said base member in the vehicle width direction than said blow-off ports of said side ventilation ducts,
- wherein said front defroster duct is disposed between said side ventilation ducts and said side defroster ducts and is formed with a wall of said side ventilation ducts and a wall of said side defroster ducts.
- 3. An instrument panel unit comprising:
- a base member extending in a vehicle width direction over substantially an entire width of a vehicle, said base member including:
- (1) a plurality of ducts integrally formed therewith and disposed in a front of the vehicle;
- (2) an electric equipment placing portion integrally formed therewith and disposed behind said plurality of ducts in the vehicle for mounting electric equipment; and
- (3) a harness placing portion integrally formed therewith and disposed behind said electric equipment placing portion in the vehicle for arranging harnesses substantially linearly and over substantially an entire width of the vehicle in the vehicle width direction; and
- an instrument panel detachably mounted on said base member and covering said base member;
- wherein said base member extends in the vehicle width direction over substantially the entire width of the vehicle and is fixed to a steering member having brackets for fixing a vehicle body at both ends thereof, said steering member being mounted on said base member before being fixed to the vehicle body.
- 4. An instrument panel unit comprising:
- a base member extending in a vehicle width direction over substantially an entire width of a vehicle, said base member including:
- (1) a plurality of ducts integrally formed therewith and disposed in a front of the vehicle;
- (2) an electric equipment placing portion integrally formed therewith and disposed behind said plurality of ducts in the vehicle for mounting electric equipment; and
- (3) a harness placing portion integrally formed therewith and disposed behind said electric equipment placing portion in the vehicle for arranging harnesses substantially linearly and over substantially an entire width of the vehicle in the vehicle width direction;
- an instrument panel detachably mounted on said base member and covering said base member;
- a plurality of grilles arranged on said instrument panel; and
- connecting pipes for connecting said plurality of grilles and blow-off ports of said plurality of ducts to each other, said connecting pipes being flexible and integrally formed with said plurality of grilles.
- 5. An instrument panel unit according to claim 4, wherein said connecting pipes are formed in an accordion fashion.
- 6. An instrument panel unit comprising:
- a base member extending in a vehicle width direction over substantially an entire width of a vehicle, said base member including:
- (1) a plurality of ducts integrally formed therewith and disposed in a front of the vehicle;
- (2) an electric equipment placing portion integrally formed therewith and disposed behind said plurality of ducts in the vehicle for mounting electric equipment; and
- (3) a harness placing portion integrally formed therewith and disposed behind said electric equipment placing portion in the vehicle for arranging harnesses substantially linearly and over substantially an entire width of the vehicle in the vehicle width direction;
- an instrument panel detachably mounted on said base member and covering said base member;
- wherein each of said harnesses is a flat harness and a surface of said harness placing portion is formed flat so that said harnesses may be arranged in a close state;
- openings formed in both end portions of said harness placing portion in the vehicle width direction;
- connectors disposed on both of the end portions, said connectors being inserted into said base member through said openings; and
- a case upper portion and a case lower portion, a plurality of circuit boards being received therebetween;
- said case upper portion being integrally formed with said base member in a vicinity of said openings,
- said case lower portion having connectors engaged with said connectors of said harnesses.
- 7. A method of installing an instrument panel unit comprising the steps of:
- fixing a base member to a steering member which extends in a vehicle width direction and has brackets for fixing a vehicle body at both ends of said base member, said base member extending in the vehicle width direction over substantially an entire width of a vehicle and including:
- (1) a plurality of ducts integrally formed therewith and disposed in a front portion of the vehicle, adjacent ducts of said plurality of ducts being partitioned by a single wall;
- (2) an electric equipment placing portion integrally formed therewith and disposed behind said plurality of ducts in the vehicle for mounting electric equipment; and
- (3) a flat harness placing portion integrally formed therewith and disposed behind said electric equipment placing portion in the vehicle for arranging flat harnesses substantially linearly and over substantially an entire width of the vehicle in the vehicle width direction;
- fixing said steering member, to which said base member has been fixed, to the vehicle body; and
- detachably mounting an instrument panel on said base member so as to cover said base member.
- 8. An instrument panel unit comprising:
- a base member extending in a vehicle width direction over substantially an entire width of a vehicle, said base member including:
- (1) a plurality of ducts integrally formed therewith and disposed in a front of the vehicle;
- (2) an electric equipment placing portion integrally formed therewith and disposed behind said plurality of ducts in the vehicle for mounting electric equipment; and
- (3) a harness placing portion integrally formed therewith and disposed behind said electric equipment placing portion in the vehicle for arranging harnesses substantially linearly and over substantially an entire width of the vehicle in the vehicle width direction;
- an instrument panel detachably mounted on said base member and covering said base member;
- openings formed in both end portions of said harness placing portion in the vehicle width direction;
- connectors disposed on both of the end portions, said connectors being inserted into said base member through said openings; and
- a case upper portion and a case lower portion with a plurality of circuit boards being received therebetween;
- said case upper portion being integrally formed with said base member in the vicinity of said openings of said base member;
- said case lower portion having connectors engaged with said connectors of said harnesses.
