Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

This invention relates to styled hair. More particularly, it relates to preventing the styled hair from receiving of makeup after styling.

BACKGROUND

A wide variety of products have been designed to move objects from one location to another and, in particular, transfer mobility-impaired individuals such as patients. There are times you may want to do your hair before your makeup and vice versa. It all comes down to personal preference, the occasion, and a few other factors that play into which order may be a better option. Some instances you may want to style your hair before applying makeup are as follows.

If you have oily skin. Those that are prone to having a bit of shine sneak up and ruin their makeup look should opt to style their strands first. This way, you can cleanse your face right before applying your makeup and have a freshly-applied face closer to the start of whatever follows.

If it's your wedding day. If you break a sweat while your hairstylist is using their heat tools, you don't have to worry about your makeup melting. Also, you don't have to stress about layers of hairspray ending up on your makeup.

If it's the summer. During the hot summer season, your best bet will be to style your hair before doing your makeup. You may use hot tools plus hot weather is likely to lead to perspiration. That way your makeup does not get ruined.

If you need your style to set. Certain styles, like curling your hair with hot rollers, need to be set (aka, kept in place while the hair cools in order to maintain its curled shape). You can then apply your makeup while your hair is setting.

When applying your makeup after you style your hair there are no products and/or tools available for using to prevent your styled hair from possibly getting touched or impacted from the application of your makeup.

Accordingly, and in light of the foregoing, it would be desirable to have a protective shielding that is configured to be placed around a hairline of a user to protect styled hair from overspray from facial cosmetic spray products. The device would be made available in multiple sizes to fit all sizes of users from the smallest child to the largest adult. conventional procurement channels such as beauty supply houses, cosmetic stores, discount stores, department stores, mail order and internet supply houses and the like. The device may be foldable to occupy less space during storage or transportation. The device would keep away the need for restyling of hair.

However, the invention is not limited to the described embodiment, and a person skilled in the art will appreciate that many other embodiments of the invention are possible without deviating from the basic concept of the invention and that any such work around will also fall under scope of this invention. It is envisioned that other styles and configurations of the present invention can be easily incorporated into the teachings of the present invention, and only one (1) particular configuration shall be shown and described for purposes of clarity and disclosure and not by way of limitation of scope. All of the implementations described below are exemplary implementations provided to enable persons skilled in the art to make or use the embodiments of the disclosure and are not intended to limit the scope of the disclosure, which is defined by the claims.

The terms “a” and “an” herein do not denote a limitation of quantity, but rather denote the presence of at least one (1) of the referenced items.

1. Detailed Description of the Figures

Referring now to FIG. 1, a front view of the styled hair protective device according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention is disclosed. The styled hair protective device (herein also described as the “device”) 10, provides protective shielding that is configured to be placed around a hairline 85 of a user 70 to protect styled hair 100 from overspray 115 from facial cosmetic spray products 110. The device 10 provides for a generally planar surface 15 with a first half 55 having an inner upper side 51a that is attached with a hinge 45 to an inner upper side 51a of a second half 60.

The first half 55 has a first outer side 20a that is curvilinear, a first inner side that is curvilinear, generally having a diameter generally concentric with a diameter of the first outer side 20a, and a first bottom side 35a. The first bottom side 35a has a length permitting a majority if not full coverage of overspray 115 of a cosmetic product 110 onto the clothes or bottom portion of hair 100 of a user 70. The first inner side 25a extends downwardly and outwardly curved from the bottom end of the hinge 45. It is appreciated that the relative diameter of the first inner side 25a can be any angle that preferably permits non-coverage of an ear of the user 70, and generally is sized slightly larger than a typical human head outer surface.

The second half 60 has a second outer side 20b that is curvilinear generally having a diameter generally concentric with a diameter of the second outer side 20b, and a second bottom side 35b. The second bottom side 35b has a length permitting a majority if not full coverage of overspray 115 of a cosmetic product 110 onto the clothes or bottom portion of hair 100 of a user 70. The second inner side 25b extends downwardly and outwardly curved from the bottom end of the hinge 45. It is appreciated that the relative diameter of the second inner side 25b can be any angle that preferably permits non-coverage of an ear of the user 70, and generally is sized slightly larger than a typical human head outer surface.

A headband 40 is configured to be attached to the first inner side 25a and second inner side 25b either in a continuous material, or in multiple headbands 40 shaped and sized to fully cover the first inner side 25a and second inner side 25b. The total combined size of the first outer side 20a and second outer side 20b is envisioned to be approximately eighteen to twenty-four inches (18-24 in.) in diameter. The headband 40 is designed to engage the head around the hairline area 85 of a user 70 and generally conform thereto. It is envisioned that the device 10 would be made available in multiple sizes to fit all sizes of users from the smallest child to the largest adult. As such, any specific dimensions mentioned herein are for illustrative purposes or reference and should not be interpreted as a limiting factor of the present invention.

The overall shape of the combined first half 55 and second half 60 is to provide a planar surface 15 (not accounting for the hinge 45) and to be manufactured from a lightweight, waterproof, material and may be transparent or opaque. The hinge 45 allows for folding along a central axis 50 thereof. The central axis 50 allows the first half 55 and second half 60 to be folded in a symmetrical manner to reduce the overall size of the device 10 to assist in storage and transportation. Further detail on the folding abilities of the device 10, if so provided, will be provided herein below. If multiple headbands 40 are used, the headbands 40 may remain attached to the first inner side 25a and second inner side 25b.

Referring next to FIG. 2, a perspective view of the device 10, shown in a semi-folded state, according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention is depicted. If provided, the hinge 45 bisects the device 10 into a first half 55 and a second half During the folding process, the first half 55 and the second half 60 are folded together along a folding path “f” 65. In its open state, the first half 55 and the second half 60 are arranged at one-hundred-eighty degrees)(180° (as shown in FIG. 1) allowing the device to be utilized. In its fully closed state, the first half 55 and the second half 60 are in contact with each other thereby reducing the effective area of the device 10, as shown in FIG. 1, in half, allowing the device 10 to be easily stored in a purse, bag, case, suitcase, drawer, or the like.

Referring now to FIG. 3, a pictorial view of the device 10, shown in the state of being applied, according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention is shown. With the device 10 in its open position as shown in FIG. 1, a user 70 positions the device 10 along an application path “a” 75 on their head 80 such that the headband 40 is along the hairline 85. The device 10 may be positioned by the user 70 themselves, or with the assistance of another such as hairstylist, makeup technician, or the like.

Referring to FIG. 4, a pictorial view of the device 10, shown in a state of being utilized, according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention is disclosed. The position of the device above the face 90 of the user 70 is the resultant end of the application path “a” 75 (as shown in FIG. 3). Once positioned, the device 10 is held in position by frictional force due to the headband(s) 40. This configuration results in the face of the user 70 is positioned on the front side 95 of the planar surface 15, while the hair 100 is positioned on the rear side 105 of the device 10. The first inner side 25a is generally shaped to permit passage of an ear of a first side of the user 70. Similarly, the second inner side 25b is generally shaped to permit passage of an ear of a second side of the user 70. This allows the user 70 or those assisting to use various spray styles of cosmetic product 110 such as face primer, setting spray, tanning spray or the like. Any resultant overspray 115 is thus blocked by the device 10 and does not allow the cosmetic product 110 to fall upon and subsequently damage the hair 100. After the application of various cosmetic product 110, specifically those that produce an overspray 115, the device 10 is removed from the user 70 following a path opposite in direction of that of the application path “a” 75 (as shown in FIG. 3).

2. Operation of the Preferred Embodiment

The preferred embodiment of the present invention can be utilized by the common user 70 in a simple and effortless manner with little or no training. It is envisioned that the device 10 would be constructed in general accordance with FIG. 1 through FIG. 4. The user 70 would procure the device 10 from conventional procurement channels such as beauty supply houses, cosmetic stores, discount stores, department stores, mail order and internet supply houses and the like. Special attention would be paid to the presence of a hinge 45 if desired, as well as the overall size of the device 10 such that it fits upon the hairline 85 of the intended user 70.

After procurement and prior to utilization, the device 10 would be prepared in the following manner: if the device 10 is provided with a hinge 45, it is unfolded along the folding path “f” 65 such that it is in a flat position (as shown in FIG. 1); any necessary or desired amount of headbands 40 are then attached to the either or both the first inner side 25a and seconds inner side 25b; application then proceeds as shown in FIG. 3, regardless of the presence of a hinge 45 or not; the device 10 is then positioned along the hairline 85 of the user 70, thus dividing the face 90 from the hair 100 and forming a barrier between them. At this point in time, the device 10 is ready for use.

During utilization of the device 10, the following procedure would be initiated: the user 70 or an assistant such as a makeup technician or beautician would apply various cosmetic products 110 in a normal and transparent manner; should any of the cosmetic product 110 produce an overspray 115, said overspray 115 is blocked by the device 10 from falling or otherwise impacting the hair 100 area. Lack of contact of the overspray 115 with the hair 100 is viewed as especially beneficial in cases where the hair 100 is completely styled. Said lack of contact is also beneficial for those with curly hair 100 and do not want to get the hair 100 wet or soaked, especially along the hairline 85.

After use of the device 10, it is cleaned by rinsing with soap and water, dried, and stored away until needed again in a repeating and cyclical manner.

The features of the device 10 are envisioned to provide the following benefits: the device 10 is made of waterproof material such that it is impervious to water as well as various cosmetic products 110; the device 10 is washable and reusable; the device 10 may be foldable to occupy less space during storage or transportation; the device 10 forms an impenetrable shield thus protecting hair 100 from overspray 115; usage of the device 10 reduces the need to re-style or repair damaged hair 100; and the device 10 is easy and simple to use.

The foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the present invention have been presented for purposes of illustration and description. They are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the precise forms disclosed, and obviously many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching. The embodiments were chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the invention and its practical application, to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the invention and various embodiments with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated.
