Claims
- 1. A compound of structure (I) ##STR8## in which R.sup.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-6 alkyl, C.sub.1-6 alkoxy, C.sub.1-6 alkoxyl-C.sub.1-6 alkyl, C.sub.3-6 cycloalkyl, C.sub.3-6 cycloalkylC.sub.1-6 alkyl, phenyl, phenylC.sub.1-6 alkyl;
- R.sup.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-6 alkyl, C.sub.1-6 alkoxy, CO.sub.2 H or CO.sub.2 C.sub.1-6 alkyl;
- m is 1, 2 or 3;
- p is 0 to 4;
- R.sup.3 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-6 alkyl, phenyl, C.sub.1-6 alkoxy, C.sub.1-6 alkylthio, C.sub.1-6 alkanoyl, amino, C.sub.1-6 alkylamino, di-C.sub.1-6 alkylamino, halogen, trifluoromethyl or cyano;
- n is 1 or 2; and
- X is NH or NC.sub.1-4 alkyl;
- or a salt thereof.
- 2. A compound according to claim 1 in which the heterocyclic ring is bonded to the nitrogen via the 3-position of said ring.
- 3. A compound according to claim 2 in which m is 1 and R.sup.2 is hydrogen.
- 4. A compound according to claim 3 in which n is 1 and R.sup.3 is a C.sub.1-6 alkyl or C.sub.1-6 alkoxy group.
- 5. A compound according to claim 4 in which the group R.sup.3 is in the 8-position of the quinoline ring.
- 6. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound according to of claim 1 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
- 7. A method of inhibiting gastric acid secretion which comprises administering to a mammal in need thereof an effective amount of a compound according to claim 1.
- 8. A method of treatment of gastrointestinal diseases and other conditions caused or exacerbated by gastric acidity which comprises administering to a mammal in need thereof an effective amount of a compound according to claim 1.
- 9. A compound according to claim 5 wherein p is 0 or 1.
- 10. A compound according to claim 9 wherein p is 0.
