Claims
- 1. Racemic mixtures and optically active isomers of compounds having the formula ##STR89## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen alkyl of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, inclusive, halogenated alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, inclusive, and 1 to 3 halogen atoms, inclusive, aryl of from 6 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, and substituted aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive; R.sub.13 is hydrogen, alkyl of from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, inclusive, alkoxycarbonyl, halogenated alkoxy carbonyl and aralkoxycarbonyl; R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, ##STR90## or when taken together with the nitrogen atoms form the group ##STR91## wherein R.sub.6 is alkyl of from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, inclusive, halogenated alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, inclusive, and 1 to 3 halogen atoms, inclusive, aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, and substituted aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, R.sub.7 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, inclusive, aryl of from 6 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, aryl of from 6 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, and substituted aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, and R.sub.8 is selected from the group consisting of ##STR92## where R.sub.9, R.sub.10, R.sub.11 and R.sub.12 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, inclusive, ##STR93## orthointerphenylene, and substituted orthointerphenylene, with the proviso that other than when R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 form a ring with the nitrogen atom, one of R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 must always be hydrogen, and the further proviso that when R.sub.13, R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 are all hydrogen, or R.sub.14 or R.sub.15 is ##STR94## R cannot be hydrogen or alkyl of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, and that when R.sub.13 is aralkoxycarbonyl or halogenated alkoxy carbonyl, neither ##STR95## can be aralkoxycarbonyl or halogenated alkoxycarbonyl, nor ##STR96## be aralkoxycarbonyl or halogenated alkylcarbonyl.
- 2. Racemic mixtures and optically active isomers of claim 1 having the formula ##STR97## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen alkyl of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, inclusive, halogenated alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, inclusive, and 1 to 3 halogen atoms, inclusive, aryl of from 6 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, and substituted aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive; R.sub.13 is alkoxycarbonyl, halogenated alkoxycarbonyl and aralkoxycarbonyl; R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 are selected from the groups consisting of hydrogen, ##STR98## or when taken together with the nitrogen atom form the group ##STR99## wherein R is alkyl of from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, inclusive, halogenated alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, inclusive, and 1 to 3 halogen atoms, inclusive, aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, and substituted aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, R.sub.7 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, inclusive, aryl of from 6 to 20 carbon atons, inclusive, aryl of from 6 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, and aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, and R.sub.8 is selected from the group consisting of ##STR100## where R.sub.9, R.sub.10, R.sub.11 and R.sub.12 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, inclusive, ##STR101## orthointerphenylene, and substituted orthointerphenylene, with the proviso that other than when R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 form a ring with the nitrogen atom, one of R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 must always be hydrogen, and the further proviso that when R.sub.13, R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 are all hydrogen, or R.sub.14 or R.sub.15 is ##STR102## R cannot be hydrogen or alkyl of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and that when R.sub.13 is aralkoxycarbonyl or halogenated alkoxy carbonyl, neither ##STR103## can be aralkoxycarbonyl or halogenated alkoxycarbonyl, nor ##STR104## be aralkylcarbonyl or halogenated alkylcarbonyl.
- 3. Compounds of claim 2 wherein R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, ##STR105## wherein R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 are the same as in claim 1.
- 4. Compounds of claim 2 wherein R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 together with the nitrogen atom form the group ##STR106## wherein R.sub.8 is the same as in claim 1.
- 5. Racemic mixtures of compounds of claim 4 wherein R is hydrogen.
- 6. Optically active isomers of compounds of claim 4 wherein R is hydrogen.
- 7. Racemic mixtures of claim 4 wherein R is selected from the group consisting of alkyl of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, inclusive, halogenated alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, inclusive, and 1 to 3 halogen atoms, inclusive, aryl of from 6 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, and substituted aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive.
- 8. Optically active isomers of compounds of claim 4 wherein R is selected from the group consisting of alkyl of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, inclusive, halogenated alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, inclusive, and 1 to 3 halogen atoms, inclusive, aryl of from 6 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, and substituted aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive.
- 9. A compound of claim 5 wherein R.sub.8 is orthointerphenylene and R.sub.13 is benzyloxycarbonyl so that the specific embodiment is (.alpha.S,5S and .alpha.R, 5R)-2-[(benzyloxy)carbonyl]-3-oxo-.alpha.-phthalimido-5-isoxazolidine-acetic acid.
- 10. A compound of claim 6 wherein R.sub.8 is orthointerphenylene and R.sub.13 is benzyloxycarbonyl so that the specific embodiment is (.alpha.S,5S)-cis-2-[(benzyloxy)carbonyl]-3-oxo-.alpha.-phthalimido-;b 5-isoxazolidine-acetic acid.
- 11. A compound of claim 5 wherein R.sub.8 is orthointerphenylene and R.sub.13 is trichloroethoxycarbonyl so that the specific embodiment (.alpha.S,5S and .alpha.R,5R)-2-[(2,2,2-trichloroethoxy)carbonyl]-3-oxo-.alpha.-phthalimido-5-isoxazolidine-acetic acid.
- 12. A compound of claim 6 whejrein R.sub.8 is orthointerphenylene and R.sub.13 is trichloroethoxycarbonyl so that the specific embodiment is (.alpha.S,5S)-2-[(2,2,2-trichloroethoxy)carbonyl]3-oxo-.alpha.-phthalimido-5-isoxazolidine-acetic acid.
- 13. A compound of claim 5 wherein R.sub.8 is orthointerphenylene and R.sub.13 is t-butyloxycarbonyl so that the specific embodiment is (.alpha.S,5S and .alpha.R,5R)-2-[(t-butyloxy)carbonyl]-3-oxo-.alpha.-phthalimido-5-isoxazolidine-acetic acid.
- 14. A compound of claim 6 wherein R.sub.8 is orthointerphenylene and R.sub.13 is t-butyloxycarbonyl so that the specific embodiment is (.alpha.S,5S)-2-[(t-butyloxy)carbonyl]-3-oxo-.alpha.-phthalimido-5-isoxazolidine acetic acid.
- 15. Compounds according to claim 1 and having the formula ##STR107## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen alkyl of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, inclusive, halogenated alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, inclusive, and 1 to 3 halogen atoms, inclusive, aryl of from 6 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, and substituted aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive; R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, ##STR108## or when taken together with the nitrogen atom form the group ##STR109## wherein R.sub.7 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, inclusive, aryl of from 6 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, aryl of from 6 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, and substituted aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, and R.sub.8 is selected from the group consisting of ##STR110## where R.sub.9, R.sub.10, R.sub.11 and R.sub.12 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, inclusive, ##STR111## orthointerphenylene and substituted orthointerphenylene, with the proviso that other than when R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 form a ring with the nitrogen atom, one of R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 must always be hydrogen.
- 16. Compounds of claim 15 wherein R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, ##STR112##
- 17. Compounds of claim 15 wherein R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 together with the nitrogen atom form the group ##STR113## wherein R.sub.8 is the same as in claim 1.
- 18. Racemic mixtures of compounds of claim 17 wherein R is hydrogen.
- 19. Optically active isomers of compounds of claim 17 wherein R is hydrogen.
- 20. Racemic mixtures of claim 17 wherein R is selected from the group consisting of alkyl of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, inclusive, halogenated alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, inclusive, and 1 to 3 halogen atoms, inclusive, aryl of from 6 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, and substituted aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive.
- 21. Optically active isomers of compounds of claim 17 wherein R is selected from the group consisting of alkyl of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, inclusive, halogenated alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, inclusive, and 1 to 3 halogen atoms, inclusive, aryl of from 6 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive, and substituted aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive.
- 22. A compound of claim 18 wherein R.sub.8 is orthointerphenylene so that the specific embodiment is (.alpha.S,5S and .alpha.R,5R)-3-oxo-.alpha.-phthalimido-5-isoxazolidine acetic acid.
- 23. A compound of claim 19 wherein R.sub.8 is orthointerphenylene so that the specific embodiment is (.alpha.S,5S)-3-oxo-.alpha.-phthalimido-5-isoxazolidine acetic acid.
- 24. Compounds of claim 20 wherein R is alkyl of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, inclusive.
- 25. Compounds of claim 21 wherein R is alkyl of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, inclusive.
- 26. Compounds of claim 20 wherein R is selected from the group consisting of aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive and substituted aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive.
- 27. Compounds of claim 21 wherein R is selected from the group consisting of aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive and substituted aralkyl of from 7 to 20 carbon atoms, inclusive.
- 28. A compound of claim 24 wherein R is methyl and R.sub.8 is orthointerphenylene so that the specific embodiment is (.alpha.S,5S and .alpha.R,5R)-3-oxo-.alpha.-phthalimido-5-isoxazolidine acetic acid, methyl ester.
- 29. A compound of claim 25 wherein R is methyl and R.sub.8 is orthointerphenylene so that the specific embodiment is phthalyl-tricholomic acid methyl ester.
- 30. A compound of claim 26 wherein R is benzhydryl and R.sub.8 is orthointerphenylene so that the specific embodiment is (.alpha.S,5S and .alpha.R,5R)-3-oxo-.alpha.-phthalimido-5-isoxazolidine acetic acid, benzhydryl ester.
- 31. A compound of claim 27 wherein R is benzhydryl and R.sub.8 is orthointerphenylene so that the specific embodiment is (.alpha.S,5S)-3-oxo-.alpha.-phthalimido-5-isoxazolidine acetic acid, benzhydryl ester.
- 32. Compounds of claim 26 wherein R is p-methoxybenzyl so that the specific embodiment is (.alpha.S,5S and .alpha.R,5R)-3-oxo-.alpha.-phthalamido-5-isoxazolidine-acetic acid, p-methoxybenzyl ester.
- 33. Compounds of claim 27 wherein R is p-methoxybenzyl so that the specific embodiment is (.alpha.S,5S)-3-oxo-.alpha.-phthalimido-5-isoxazolidineacetic acid, p-methoxybenzyl ester.
- 34. Racemic mixtures of claim 1 wherein R.sub.13 is alkyl of from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, inclusive, and R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 when taken together with the nitrogen atom form the group ##STR114## wherein R.sub.8 is the same as in claim 1.
- 35. Optically active isomers of compounds of claim 34 wherein R.sub.13 is alkyl of from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, inclusive, and R.sub.14 and R.sub.15 when taken together with the nitrogen atom form the group ##STR115## wherein R.sub.8 is the same as in claim 1.
- 36. A compound of claim 34 wherein R is benzhydryl, R.sub.8 is orthointerphenylene and R.sub.13 is methyl so that the specific embodiment is (.alpha.S,5S and 2R,5R)-2-methyl-3-oxo-.alpha.-phthalimido-5-isoxazolidine-acetic acid, benzhydryl ester.
- 37. A compound of claim 35 wherein R is benzhydryl, R.sub.8 is orthointerphenylene and R.sub.13 is methyl so that the specific embodiment is (.alpha.S,5S)-2-methyl-3-oxo-.alpha.-phthalimido-5-isoxazolidine-acetic acid, benzhydryl ester.
