Claims
- 1. A Fischer-Tropsch process for the conversion of synthesis gas to hydrocarbons which comprises activating a copper promoted, cobalt-manganese spinel catalyst having the formula Co.sub.3-x Mn.sub.x O.sub.4, where x is from about 0.5 to about 1.2 by contacting the catalyst with a reducing atmosphere and contacting the activated catalyst in a reactor with hydrogen/carbon monoxide synthesis gas.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein reducing atmosphere contains a hydrogen/carbon monoxide containing gas.
- 3. The process of claim 2 wherein activation is effected ex situ the reactor.
- 4. The process of claim 2 wherein activation is effected in situ in the reactor.
- 5. The process of claim 2 wherein activation is effected at elevated temperature.
- 6. The process of claim 5 wherein the temperature ranges from about 240.degree. C.-500.degree. C.
- 7. The process of claim 2 wherein the catalyst is slurried in a slurry liquid and the Fischer-Tropsch process is carried out in the slurry phase.
- 8. The process of claim 7 wherein the hydrocarbon product includes C.sub.2 -C.sub.20 olefins and C.sub.5 -C.sub.30 paraffins.
- 9. The process of claim 7 wherein x is from about 0.7 to about 1.0.
- 10. The process of claim 7 wherein the Fischer-Tropsch process is carried out at temperatures ranging from about 200.degree. C.-300.degree. C. and pressures of about 50-400 psig.
