Claims
- 1. A compound selected from the group consisting of a 4-substituted-2-amidophenylisothiourea of the formula: ##STR44## and a 5-substituted-2-amidophenylisothiourea of the formula: ##STR45## wherein X is sulfur, sulfinyl or sulfonyl; R.sup.4 is alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3 to 10 carbon atoms, phenyl, phenylalkyl of 7 to 12 carbon atoms, alkoxyalkyl of 2 to 12 carbon atoms, phenoxyalkyl of 7 to 12 carbon atoms;
- R.sup.5 is alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, alkenyl of 2 to 6 carbon atoms or alkynyl of 2 to 6 carbon atoms; and
- R.sup.6 is alkoxy of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, alkenyloxy of 2 to 6 carbon atoms, alkynyloxy of 2 to 6 carbon atoms, or alkoxyalkoxy of 2 to 12 carbon atoms;
- each of R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 independent of the other is hydrogen, halogeno, alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, alkoxy of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, alkylthio of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, trifluoromethyl, alkanoyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, amino, alkanoylamino of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or carbalkoxy of 2 to 7 carbon atoms.
- 2. A compound according to claim 1 in which said compound is of the formula: ##STR46## wherein R.sup.4 is alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3 to 7 carbon atoms, alkoxyalkyl of 2 to 8 carbon atoms, phenyl, benzyl, phenethyl or phenoxymethyl;
- R.sup.5 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkenyl of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, or alkynyl of 2 to 4 carbon atoms;
- R.sup.6 is alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkenyloxy of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, alkynyloxy of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, or alkoxyalkoxy of 2 to 8 carbon atoms; and
- each of R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 independent of the other is hydrogen, fluoro, chloro, bromo, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkylthio of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, trifluoromethyl, alkanoyl of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, amino, alkanoylamino of 2 to 4 carbon atoms or carbalkoxy of 2 to 7 carbon atoms.
- 3. A compound according to claim 2 wherein X is sulfur.
- 4. A compound according to claim 3 wherein
- R.sup.4 is alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, alkoxyalkyl of 2 to 8 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3 to 7 carbon atoms, phenyl, or phenoxymethyl;
- R.sup.5 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and
- R.sup.6 is alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
- 5. A compound according to claim 2 wherein X is sulfinyl.
- 6. A compound according to claim 5 wherein
- R.sup.4 is alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, alkoxyalkyl of 2 to 8 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3 to 7 carbon atoms, phenyl, or phenoxymethyl;
- R.sup.5 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and
- R.sup.6 is alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
- 7. A compound according to claim 2 wherein X is sulfonyl.
- 8. A compound according to claim 7 wherein
- R.sup.4 is alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, alkoxyalkyl of 2 to 8 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3 to 7 carbon atoms, phenyl, or phenoxymethyl;
- R.sup.5 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and
- R.sup.6 is alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
- 9. A compound according to claim 1 in which said compound is of the formula: ##STR47## wherein R.sup.4 is alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3 to 7 carbon atoms, alkoxyalkyl of 2 to 8 carbon atoms, phenyl, benzyl, phenethyl or phenoxymethyl;
- R.sup.5 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkenyl of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, or alkynyl of 2 to 4 carbon atoms;
- R.sup.6 is alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkenyloxy of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, alkynyloxy of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, or alkoxyalkoxy of 2 to 8 carbon atoms; and
- each of R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 independent of the other is hydrogen, fluoro, chloro, bromo, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkylthio of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, trifluoromethyl, alkanoyl of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, amino, alkanoylamino of 2 to 4 carbon atoms or carbalkoxy of 2 to 7 carbon atoms.
- 10. A compound according to claim 9 wherein X is sulfur.
- 11. A compound according to claim 10 wherein
- R.sup.4 is alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, alkoxyalkyl of 2 to 8 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3 to 7 carbon atoms, phenyl, or phenoxymethyl;
- R.sup.5 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and
- R.sup.6 is alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
- 12. A compound according to claim 9 wherein X is sulfinyl.
- 13. A compound according to claim 12 wherein
- R.sup.4 is alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, alkoxyalkyl of 2 to 8 carbon atoms, cyaloalkyl of 3 to 7 carbon atoms, phenyl, or phenoxymethyl;
- R.sup.5 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and
- R.sup.6 is alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
- 14. A compound according to claim 9 wherein X is sulfonyl.
- 15. A compound according to claim 14 wherein
- R.sup.4 is alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, alkoxyalkyl of 2 to 8 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3 to 7 carbon atoms, phenyl, or phenoxymethyl;
- R.sup.5 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and
- R.sup.6 is alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
- 16. The compound according to claim 1 which is N-(2-butyramido-4-phenylthiophenyl)-N'-carbomethoxy-S-methylisothiourea.
- 17. The compound according to claim 1 which is N-(2-propionamido-4-phenylthiophenyl)-N'-carbomethoxy-S-methylisothiourea.
- 18. The compound according to claim 1 which is N-(2-methoxyacetamido-4-phenylthiophenyl)-N'-carbomethoxy-S-methylisothiourea.
- 19. A pharmaceutical composition comprising an anthelmintically effective amount of a compound according to claim 1 and a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier.
- 20. The method of combatting helmintic infestation in humans and animals which comprises administering to a human or animal an anthelmintically effective amount of a compound according to claim 1.
