Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula ##STR17## where Q is S:
- Y is CH:
- R.sub.1 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, loweralkynyl, loweralkenyl, arylloweralkyl, loweralkoxycarbonylaminoloweralkylcarbonyl, arylloweralkoxycarbonylaminoloweralkylcarbonyl, aminoloweralkylcarbonyl, loweralkoxycarbonyl or acyl;
- the term aryl in each occurrence meaning a phenyl group substituted with 0, 1 or 2 substituent each of which being independently lower alkyl, loweralkoxy, halogen or trifluoromethyl; the term acyl in each occurrence meaning a substituent having the formula ##STR18## R.sub.2 is hydrogen or loweralkyl; R.sub.3 is hydrogen or loweralkyl;
- X is hydrogen, loweralkyl or halogen, and n is 0 or 1; or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof.
- 2. The compound as defined in claim 1 which is 5-(4-pyridinylamino)benzo[b]thiophene.
- 3. The compound as defined in claim 1 which is 5-(propyl-4-pyridinylamino)benzo[b]thiophene.
- 4. The compound as defined in claim 1 which is N-(benzo[b]thiophene-5-yl)-N-(4-pyridinyl)-2-aminoacetamide.
- 5. A pharmaceutical composition which comprises a compound as defined in claim 1 in an amount effective for alleviating a memory dysfunction characterized by a cholinergic deficit and a suitable carrier therefor.
- 6. A pharmaceutical composition which comprises a compound as defined in claim 1 in an amount effective for treating depression and a suitable carrier therefor.
- 7. A pharmaceutical composition which comprises a compound as defined in claim 1 in an amount effective for treating personality disorders such as obsessive-compulsive disorder and a suitable carrier therefor.
- 8. A pharmaceutical composition for treating dermatoses which comprises a compound as defined in claim 1 in an amount effective for treating dermatoses and a suitable carrier therefor.
- 9. A method of treating a patient in need of relief from a memory dysfunction which comprises administering to such a patient an effective amount of a compound as defined in claim 1.
- 10. A method of treating a patient in need of relief from depression which comprises administering to such a patient an effective amount of a compound as defined in claim 1.
- 11. A method of treating a patient in need of relief from personality disorders such as obsessive-compulsive disorder which comprises administering to such a patient an effective amount of a compound as defined in claim 1.
- 12. A method of treating a patient in need of relief from dermatoses which comprises administering to such a patient an effective amount of a compound as defined in claim 1.
