Claims
- 1. A compound of the following formula: ##STR44## each of R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 is independently hydrogen or C.sub.1-8 alkyl; R.sup.5 is hydrogen; C.sub.1-8 alkyl; C.sub.1-8 haloalkyl; C.sub.2-10 alkoxyalkyl; unsubstituted phenyl; phenyl substituted at one to three of the ring carbon atoms with a group selected from C.sub.1-8 alkyl, C.sub.1-8 haloalkyl, C.sub.1-8 alkoxy, C.sub.1-8 haloalkoxy or halogen; alkali cation; alkali earth cation; ammonium cation, unsubstituted or substituted by a C.sub.1-20 alkyl, di-C.sub.1-20 alkyl, tri-C.sub.1-20 alkyl, tetra-C.sub.1-20 alkyl, hydroxy-C.sub.1-5 alkyl, di(hydroxy-C.sub.1-5 alkyl), tri(hydroxy-C.sub.1-5 alkyl), C.sub.1-5 alkoxy-C.sub.1-5 alkyl, hydroxy-C.sub.1-5 alkoxy-C.sub.1-5 alkyl or C.sub.1-8 alkoxycarbonyl-C.sub.1-5 alkyl group; phosphonium cation; tri-C.sub.1-8 alkylsulfonium cation; tri-C.sub.1-8 alkylsulfoxonium cation; or the group ##STR45## each of R.sup.6 and R.sup.9 is C.sub.1-8 alkyl, C.sub.2-8 alkenyl, phenyl or benzyl; each of R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 is independently hydrogen or C.sub.1-8 alkyl; or R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 are taken together to form a lower alkylene bridge of three to six carbon atoms, optionally including one moiety selected from the group of O, S or NH in the ring;
- R.sup.10 is the group ##STR46## each of R.sup.11 and R.sup.12 is independently or C.sub.1-8 alkyl or C.sub.2-10 alkoxyalkyl;
- R.sup.13 is hydrogen or C.sub.1-8 alkyl;
- Q is oxygen, sulfur or N-R.sup.13 ; W is nitrogen; each of X and X' is independently oxygen or sulfur; and each of Y, Z, Z.sup.1, Z.sup.2 and Z.sup.3 is independently hydrogen, C.sub.1-8 alkyl, C.sub.1-8 haloalkyl, C.sub.1-8 alkoxy, C.sub.1-8 haloalkoxy, C.sub.2-8 alkenyloxy, C.sub.2-8 haloalkenyloxy, C.sub.2-8 alkynyloxy, phenyl, phenoxy, C.sub.1-8 alkylthio, hydroxy, halogen, nitro, cyano, amino, C.sub.1-8 alkylamino or dialkylamino.
- 2. A compound of the following formula, according to claim 1: ##STR47##
- 3. A compound according to claim 2 wherein R.sup.3 is methyl or ethyl; and R.sup.4 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl.
- 4. A compound according to claim 3 wherein Z is hydrogen, methyl, methoxy, ethyl, bromo, chloro, fluoro, iodo, trifluoromethyl or trifluoromethoxy; and Z.sup.1 hydrogen, chloro, fluoro, methyl or methoxy.
- 5. A compound according to claim 4 wherein X is oxygen
- 6. A compound according to claim 5 wherein R.sup.5 is hydrogen, sodium cation, ammonium cation, C.sub.1-20 alkylammonium cation, di-C.sub.1-5 alkylammonium cation, hydroxy-C.sub.1-5 alkylammonium cation, di-(hydroxy-C.sub.1-5 alkyl)ammonium cation, hydroxy-C.sub.1-5 alkoxy-C.sub.1-5 alkylammonium cation or the group ##STR48##
- 7. A compound according to claim 6 wherein R.sup.3 is methyl; R.sup.4 is hydrogen; R.sup.11 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or sec-butyl;; and R.sup.12 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, sec-butyl or tert-butyl.
- 8. A compound according to claim 7 wherein R.sup.5 is hydrogen, sodium cation, isopropylammonium cation, tetradecylammonium cation, 2-hydroxyethylammonium cation, di-2-hydroxyethylammonium cation, 2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethylammonium action, butyryloxymethyl, pivaloyloxymethyl or 1-(propionyloxy)ethyl.
- 9. A compound according to claim 8 wherein Z is hydrogen and Z.sup.1 is hydrogen.
- 10. A compound according to claim 8 wherein Z is 3-chloro or 3-fluoro and Z.sup.1 is hydrogen.
- 11. A compound according to claim 10 wherein Z is 3-fluoro.
- 12. A compound according to claim 10 wherein Z is 3-chloro.
- 13. A compound according to claim 8 wherein Z is 3-chloro or 3-fluoro and Z.sup.1 is 5-chloro or 5-fluoro.
- 14. A compound according to claim 13 wherein Z is 3-chloro and Z.sup.1 is 5-chloro.
- 15. A compound according to claim 13 wherein Z is 3-fluoro and Z.sup.1 is 5-fluoro.
- 16. A method for combatting weeds which comprises treating said weed or its locus with a herbicidally effective amount of a compound of formula (A) according to claim 1.
