Claims
- 1. A process for augmenting or enhancing the aroma of a perfume composition or cologne comprising the step of adding to a perfume base or a cologne base, an aroma augmenting or enhancing quantity of a composition consisting essentially of a mixture of compounds defined by the structures: ##STR210## produced by the process consisting essentially of the step of reacting in the presence of a protonic acid catalyst or a Lewis acid catalyst at least one methylcyclopentadiene isomer having a structure selected from the group consisting of ##STR211## or at least one precursor thereof having a structure selected from the group consisting of: ##STR212## with formic acid at a temperature in the range of from about 0.degree. C. up to about 50.degree. C. with a concentration of acid catalyst in the reaction mass varying from 0.01% up to 1 mole percent based on the weight of reaction mass.
