Claims
- 1. A twin-wire web former of a paper machine, comprising
- a covering wire and a carrying wire which define a twin-wire forming zone,
- at least one forming roll constituting a suction roll and arranged in said twin-wire zone to dewater a paper web running on said covering and carrying wires, said forming roll comprising a substantially circular water-receiving fabric-sock mantle loop and a stationary suction shoe arranged in said loop, said suction shoe having a permeable, curved guide deck, said loop revolving about said suction shoe such that an inner face of said loop glides against said guide deck, and
- detachment means for detaching the web from the carrying wire and transferring the web further into the paper machine.
- 2. The web former of claim 1, further comprising a first and a second forming roll and an additional curved guide deck arranged in said twin-wire zone between said first forming roll and said second forming roll such that the direction of curvature of said additional curved guide deck is in an opposite direction to the direction of curvature of said first forming roll.
- 3. The web former of claim 1, wherein said guide deck has a radius of curvature in a range of about 0.5 m to about 1.5 m.
- 4. The wed former of claim 1, wherein the radius of curvature of said guide deck is substantially the same as the radius of curvature of said loop and the center of curvature of said guide deck is substantially the same as the center of rotation of said loop.
- 5. The web former of claim 1, further comprising
- axle journals arranged at ends of said roll to support said suction roll,
- support frames for supporting said axle journals,
- end flanges connected to said axle journals, both edges of said loop being fixed to said end flanges,
- drive means coupled to at least one of said axle journals for revolving said loop about said suction shoe, and
- connecting means for connecting an interior space of said suction shoe with the source of negative pressure, said connecting means being arranged to extend through at least one of said axle journals.
- 6. The web former of claim 1, wherein said loop has a diameter in a range of from about 0.8 m to about 2.5 m, the thickness of said loop being in a range of about 2 mm to about 10 mm.
- 7. The web former of claim 1, further comprising
- a driving roll arranged outside said loop, and
- a guide roll arranged inside said loop opposite said driving roll such that a loaded drive nip is formed between said driving roll and said guide roll to drive said loop around said guide deck.
- 8. The web former of claim 1, further comprising
- axle journals arranged at ends of said suction roll to support said suction roll, and
- axial tensioning means for producing axial tensioning of said loop, said axial tensioning means comprising bower units arranged on end walls of said suction shoe and which apply a force to at least one of said axle journals.
- 9. The web former of claim 7, wherein said driving roll is selected from the group consisting of a solid roll and a fragmentary roll and said guide roll is a fragmentary roll.
- 10. The web former of claim 7, further comprising a water collecting trough having seal ribs engaging with an outer face of said loop, said driving roll and said guide roll being arranged in said trough.
- 11. A suction roll arranged in a twin-wire zone of a web former, said suction roll comprising a substantially circular, water-receiving fabric-sock mantle loop, and a stationary suction shoe arranged in said loop, said suction shoe being connected to a source of negative pressure to thereby provide suction and comprising a permeable, curved guide deck, said loop revolving about said suction shoe such that an inner face of said loop glides against said guide deck.
- 12. A twin-wire web former of a paper machine, comprising
- a covering wire and a carrying wire which define a twin-wire forming zone,
- at least one forming member constituting a suction element and arranged in said twin-wire zone to dewater a paper web running on said covering and carrying wires, said suction element comprising a substantially water-receiving fabric-sock mantle loop, a stationary suction shoe arranged in said loop and having a permeable, curved guide deck against which an inner face of said loop glides, drive means for driving said loop around said guide deck, said drive means comprising a driving roll arranged outside said loop and a guide roll arranged inside said loop opposite said driving roll to form a loaded drive nip between said driving roll and said guide roll, and a water collecting trough having seal ribs engaging with an outer race of said loop, said driving roll and said guide roll being arranged in said trough, and
- detachment means for detaching the web from the carrying wire and transferring the web further into the paper machine.
- 13. The web former of claim 12, further comprising axial tensioning means for producing axial tensioning of said loop.
- 14. The web former of claim 13, wherein suction element further comprises axle journals arranged at ends of said suction element to support said suction element, said axial tensioning means comprising power units arranged on end walls of said suction element and which apply a force to at least one of said axle journals.
- 15. The web former of claim 12, wherein said loop is substantially circular.
- 16. The web former of claim 12, wherein said driving roll is selected from the group consisting of a solid roll and a fragmentary roll and said guide roll is a fragmentary roll.
- 17. The web former of claim 12, wherein said loop of said suction element engages with one of said covering wire and said carrying wire.
