Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula: ##STR4## wherein R is a hydrocarbon chain of from 3 to 12 carbons substituted with one or more hydroxyl groups;
- each R.sup.1 is independently selected from the group consisting of ##STR5## wherein each m is independently from 0 to 2; and each X is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen or --SO.sub.3 H, where at least one X is SO.sub.3 H.
- 2. The compound of claim 1, wherein each R.sup.1 is the same and m is 0.
- 3. The compound of claim 1, wherein R is an hydrocarbon chain having 3 to 5 carbon atoms and is substituted with one or more hydroxyl groups.
- 4. The compound of claim 2 wherein R is ##STR6## .
- 5. A method for preparing a sulfated acid amide, which comprises:
- forming an acid amide by condensing a member selected from the group consisting of cellobionic acid, cellotrionic acid, cellotetraonic acid, maltobionic acid, maltotrionic acid, maltotetraonic acid, end mixtures thereof with a diamine of the formula
- H.sub.2 N--R--NH.sub.2
- wherein R is a hydrocarbon chain of from 3 to 12 carbons and is substituted with one or more hydroxyl groups; and
- sulfating said acid amide to form a sulfated acid amide.
- 6. The method of claim 5 which comprises electrochemical oxidation of a member selected from the group consisting of cellobiose, cellotriose, cellotetraose, maltose, maltotriose, maltotetraose, and mixtures thereof.
