Claims
- 1. A process for hydrotreating hydrocarbon feeds which comprises contacting said feeds at a temperature in the range of from about 400.degree. F. to about 850.degree. F. and a pressure in the range of from about 400 psig to about 2500 psig with a catalyst having improved desulfurization activity prepared by incorporating an element selected from the group consisting of nickel, cobalt and mixtures thereof, and a heavy metal selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, tungsten and mixtures thereof, into an alumina hydrogel containing a phosphorus-containing compound, and sulfiding said catalyst with a gaseous sulfur compound at a temperature of at least about 900.degree. F. for at least one hour.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein said catalyst has a surface area of at least about 300 m.sup.2 /g and at least about 75% of its pore volume in pores having diameters less than about 70 .ANG..
- 3. The process of claim 1 wherein said phosphorus-containing compound is selected from the group consisting of phosphoric acid, a phosphate salt and mixtures thereof.
- 4. A process for hydrotreating hydrocarbon feeds which comprises contacting said feeds at a temperature in the range of from about 400.degree. F. to about 850.degree. F. and a pressure in the range of from about 400 psig to about 2500 psig with a catalyst having improved desulfurization activity prepared by incorporating an element selected from the group consisting of nickel, cobalt and mixtures thereof, a heavy metal selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, tungsten and mixtures thereof, and a phosphorus-containing compound into an alumina hydrogel, and sulfiding said catalyst with a gaseous sulfur compound at a temperature of at least about 900.degree. F. for at least one hour.
- 5. The process of claim 4 wherein said phosphorus-containing compound is selected from the group consisting of phosphoric acid, a phosphate salt and mixtures thereof.
- 6. The process of claim 4 wherein said catalyst has a surface area of at least about 300 m.sup.2 /g and at least about 75% of its pore volume in pores having diameters less than about 70 .ANG..
- 7. The process of claim 4 wherein said alumina hydrogel contains a phosphorus-containing compound.
- 8. The process of claim 7 wherein said phosphorus-containing compound is selected from the group consisting of phosphoric acid, a phosphate salt and mixtures thereof.
- 9. The process of claim 7 wherein said catalyst has a surface area of at least about 300 m.sup.2 /g and at least about 75% of its pore volume in pores having diameters less than about 70 .ANG..
