Claims
- 1. A sulfonated substantially random interpolymer comprising(1) from 1 to 65 mole percent of polymer units derived from styrene; (2) from 35 to 99 mole percent of polymer units derived from ethylene, propylene, butene-1, hexene-1, pentene-1, octene-1 or any combination thereof, and wherein said sulfonated interpolymer contains from 0 1 to 65 mole percent of one or more groups represented by the formula —SO3−M where M is hydrogen, NH4+, Li+, Na+, K+, Mg++, or Zn++.
- 2. The sulfonated substantially random interpolymer of claim 1 which comprises(i) from 1 to 50 mole percent of polymer units derived from component (1); (ii) from 50 to 99 mole percent of polymer units derived from component (2); and (iii) said polymer contains from 0 5 to 50 mole percent of the group represented by the formula —SO3−M.
- 3. The sulfonated substantially random interpolymer of claim 1 which comprises(i) from 1 to 10 mole percent of polymer units derived from component (1); (ii) from 50 to 99 mole percent of polymer units derived from component (2), and (iii) said polymer contains 0 5 to 10 mole or percent of the group represented by the formula —SO3−M.
- 4. The sulfonated substantially random interpolymer of claim 1, wherein the interpolymer comprises a sulfonated aromatic ring.
- 5. The sulfonated substantially random interpolymer of claim 1, wherein the interpolymer comprises a sulfonated polymer backbone.
- 6. The sulfonated substantially random interpolymer of claim 1, comprising(i) from 1 to 50 mole percent of polymer units derived from component (1); (ii) from 50 to 99 mole percent of polymer units derived from component (2); and (iii) said polymer contains from 0 1 to 10 mole percent of the group represented by the formula —SO3−M.
- 7. A sulfonated substantially random interpolymer comprising(1) from 1 to 65 mole percent of polymer units derived from styrene; (2) from 35 to 99 mole percent of polymer units derived from ethylene, propylene, butene-1, hexene-1, pentene-1, octene-1 or any combination thereof; and wherein said sulfonated interpolymer contains from 0 001 to 30 mole percent of one or more groups represented by the formula —SO3−M where M is hydrogen, NH4+, Li+, Na+, K+, Mg++, or Zn++.
