Claims
- 1. A process for the preparation of a compound of the formula (IIIa) ##STR20## in which M is hydrogen and/or one equivalent of a non-chromophoric cation and R is one or more hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, halogen, phenoxy or benzyloxy radicals, which comprises reacting one mole of a compound of the formula (X) ##STR21## wherein R is as defined above, with at least a stoichiometric amount of an SO.sub.3 /base complex in an inert organic solvent, at a temperature of from 20.degree. C. up to the boiling point of the solvent used.
- 2. A process according to claim 1, wherein M is sodium.
- 3. A process according to claim 1, which comprises reacting one mole of a compound of the formula (X) ##STR22## wherein each R is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl with at least a stoichiometric amount of an SO.sub.3 /base complex in an inert organic solvent, at a temperature of from 20.degree. C. up to the boiling point of the solvent used.
- 4. A process according to claim 3, wherein R is hydrogen.
- 5. A process according to claim 4, wherein the SO.sub.3 /base complex is a SO.sub.3 /pyridine complex.
- 6. A process according to claim 4, wherein the solvent is nitrobenzene.
