Claims
- 1. A sulfosuccinate surfactant according to the formula ##STR8## where R is alkyl; X is alkyl; R.sup.1 is H or CH.sub.3 ; R.sup.2 is an alkyl having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms; M is a cation selected from the group of alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, ammonium, and water soluble organic amines; m is 1 or 2; n is zero or 1; y is 1 to 10 when R.sup.1 is H and from 1 to 3 when R.sup.1 is CH.sub.3 ; w is 1 or 2; with the proviso that the number of carbon atoms in (R).sub.m is from 2 to 24, and that there is a difference of at least 2 in the number of carbon atoms between the sum of the carbon atoms in (i) ##STR9##
- 2. A surfactant according to claim 1, in which the difference in the number of carbon atoms between the sum of the carbon atoms in (i) (R).sub.m --N(X).sub.n and ##STR10## is from 4 to 14.
- 3. A surfactant according to claim 1, in which R is alkyl containing from 8 to 15 carbon atoms, X is alkyl containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, R.sup.1 is H, R.sup.2 is CH.sub.3, y is 2 to 6, and w is 1.
- 4. A surfactant according to claim 3, in which R is a straight chain alkyl.
- 5. A surfactant according to claim 1, in which R contains from 3 to 18 carbon atoms and is a branch chain alkyl.
- 6. A surfactant according to claim 1, in which (R).sub.m is a C.sub.2 -C.sub.5 alkyl, R.sup.1 is H where y is 2 to 6, and R.sup.2 is alkyl containing from 1 to 18 carbon atoms.
