Claims
- 1. A catalyst suitable for the dehydrogenation of C.sub.2 to C.sub.10 paraffins to alkenes which catalyst is substantially free of alkali and alkaline earth metals and comprises a platinum group metal on a silicalite support and from 0.01% to 1% by weight of sulphur.
- 2. A catalyst as claimed in claim 1 wherein the amount of platinum group metal is from 0.01 to 5%.
- 3. A catalyst as claimed in claim 2 wherein the amount of platinum group metal is from 0.01 to 0.2% by weight.
- 4. A catalyst as claimed in claim 1, containing from 0.1 to 1% by weight of sulphur.
- 5. A catalyst as claimed in claim 2, containing from 0.01% to 1% by weight of platinum group metal.
- 6. A process for the preparation of a catalyst suitable for the dehydrogenation of C.sub.2 to C.sub.10 paraffins to alkenes which catalyst is substantially free of alkali and alkaline earth metals and comprises a platinum group metal on a silicalite support and from 0.01% to 1% by weight of sulphur, which process comprises forming the silicalite in the presence of the platinum group metal by forming a hydrogel comprising water, a soluble source of a platinum group metal, a source of silica and an organic nitrogen-containing template under silicalite forming conditions and thereafter crystallizing the hydrogel at elevated temperatures followed by subjecting the catalyst to a sulphiding treatment to improve the selectivity of the catalyst by contacting the catalyst with a sulphur-containing compound under conditions such that sulphur is deposited on the catalyst.
