Claims
- 1. A support assembly for supporting an object on a floor, said support assembly comprising:a leg member having a longitudinal axis; a support bracket releasably mounted to said leg member; and wherein one of said support bracket and said leg member comprises a post member, and the other of said support bracket and said leg member comprises a socket shaped to receive said post member, and wherein said post member and said socket are shaped such that said support bracket and said leg member can be releasably mounted to the other of said support bracket and said leg member in one of at least three positions, wherein said support bracket and said leg member are rotated about said longitudinal axis 45 degrees relative to the other between a first position and second position, and wherein said support bracket and said leg member are rotated about said longitudinal axis 45 degrees relative to the other between said second position and a third position.
- 2. The support assembly of claim 1 wherein said post member comprises a plurality of planar side surfaces.
- 3. The support assembly of claim 2 wherein said post member comprises eight side surfaces and has an octagonal-shaped cross-section.
- 4. The support assembly of claim 3 wherein said socket is non-symmetrical, wherein a first half of the socket has an inner rectangular shape and a second half of the socket has an inner octagonal shape.
- 5. The support assembly of claim 1 wherein said post member extends downwardly from said support bracket, and said socket opens upwardly from said leg member.
- 6. The support assembly of claim 1 wherein said post member extends upwardly from said leg member, and said socket opens downwardly from said support bracket.
- 7. The support assembly of claim 1 wherein said support bracket further comprises at least a pair of arms extending outwardly from one of said post member and said socket.
- 8. The support assembly of claim 1 further comprising a worksurface member supported by said support bracket.
- 9. A support assembly for supporting an object on a floor, said assembly comprising:a leg member; and a support bracket releasably mounted to said leg member; wherein one of said support bracket and said leg member comprises a multi-faceted post member, and the other of said support bracket and said leg member comprises a socket shaped to receive said post member in one of at least three positions with a 45 degree rotation between at least two of the three positions.
- 10. The support assembly of claim 9 wherein said multi-faceted post member comprises eight side surfaces forming an octagonal cross-section.
- 11. The support assembly of claim 9 wherein said multi-faceted post member has a star shaped cross-section.
- 12. The support assembly of claim 9 further comprising a worksurface member supported by said support bracket.
- 13. The support assembly of claim 9 wherein said post member extends downwardly from said support bracket, and said socket is formed in said leg member.
- 14. The support assembly of claim 9 wherein said post member extends upwardly from said leg, and said socket is formed in said support bracket.
- 15. The support assembly of claim 9 wherein said support bracket further comprising at least one laterally extending support arm.
- 16. A support assembly for supporting an object on a floor, said assembly comprising:a vertically extending support member defining a longitudinal axis; and a support bracket releasably mountable to said support member in at least a first position and a second position, wherein said support bracket is rotated about said longitudinal axis approximately 45 degrees between said first and second positions, and wherein said support bracket is non-rotatably mounted to said support member in each of said first and second positions such that said support bracket is prevented from rotating about said longitudinal axis when mounted to said support member in each of said first and second positions, and wherein said support bracket is further releasably mountable to said support member in a third position, wherein said support bracket is rotated about said longitudinal axis approximately 45 degrees between said second and third positions.
- 17. The support assembly of claim 16 wherein one of said support member and said support bracket comprises a post member and the other of said support member and said support bracket comprises a socket shaped to receive said post member, wherein said post is received in said socket such that said support bracket is non-rotatably mounted to said support member when mounted thereto in each of said first and second positions.
- 18. The support assembly of claim 17 wherein said post member comprises at least a first, second and third face, wherein said first and second face are formed at an approximate 45 degree angle, wherein said second and third face are formed at an approximate 45 degree angle and wherein said first and third face are formed at an approximate 90 degree angle.
- 19. The support assembly of claim 18 wherein said post member has an octagonal shaped cross-section.
- 20. The support assembly of claim 18 wherein said socket comprises at least a first, second and third face, wherein said first and second face of said socket are formed at an approximate 45 degree angle, wherein said second and third face of said socket are formed at an approximate 45 degree angle and wherein said first and third face of said socket are formed at an approximate 90 degree angle.
- 21. The support assembly of claim 20 wherein said socket has an octagonal shaped cavity.
- 22. The support assembly of claim 20 wherein said socket comprises a cavity, wherein a first half of said cavity is defined by said first, second and third faces, and wherein a second half of said cavity is defined by a fourth, fifth and sixth face formed at approximate 90 degree angles.
- 23. The support assembly of claim 17 wherein said post member extends downwardly from said support bracket and wherein said socket is formed in said support member.
- 24. The support assembly of claim 17 wherein said support bracket further comprises a support surface engaging a top of said support member.
- 25. The support assembly of claim 17 wherein said support member comprises a support leg.
- 26. The support assembly of claim 16 wherein said support bracket comprises a pair of laterally extending support arms, wherein said pair of support arms are oriented as a right-hand support when said support bracket is in said first position, and wherein said pair of support arms are oriented as a left-hand support when said support bracket is in said third position.
- 27. The support assembly of claim 26 further comprising a work surface member supported on said support arms.
- 28. The support assembly of claim 27 comprising a pair of support members and a pair of support brackets, wherein said pair of support brackets are oriented as a left-hand support and a right-hand support beneath said work surface member.
- 29. The support assembly of claim 26 wherein said pair of support arms are oriented as an intermediate, corner support when said support bracket is in said second position.
- 30. A method for reconfiguring a support assembly comprising:providing a vertically extending support member defining a longitudinal axis and a support bracket; mounting said support bracket to said support member in a first position, wherein said support bracket is non-rotatable about said longitudinal axis; removing said support bracket from said support member in said first position; mounting said support bracket to said support member in a second position, wherein said support bracket is non-rotatable about said longitudinal axis, and wherein said support bracket is rotated about said longitudinal axis approximately 45 degrees between said first and second positions; and removing said support bracket from said support member in one of said first and second positions, and mounting said support bracket to said support member in a third position, wherein said support bracket is non-rotatable about said longitudinal axis, and wherein said support bracket is rotated about said longitudinal axis approximately 45 degrees between said second and third positions.
- 31. The method of claim 30 wherein one of said support member and said support bracket comprises a post member and the other of said support member and said support bracket comprises a socket shaped to receive said post member, and wherein said mounting said support bracket to said support member in said first and second positions comprises disposing said post in said socket.
- 32. The method of claim 31 wherein said socket comprises a cavity, wherein a first half of said cavity is defined by said first, second and third faces, and wherein a second half of said cavity is defined by a fourth, fifth and sixth face formed at approximate 90 degree angles.
- 33. The method of claim 31 wherein said post member extends downwardly from said support bracket and wherein said socket is formed in said support member.
- 34. The method of claim 31 wherein said post member comprises at least a first, second and third face, wherein said first and second face are formed at an approximate 45 degree angle, wherein said second and third face are formed at an approximate 45 degree angle and wherein said first and third face are formed at an approximate 90 degree angle.
- 35. The method of claim 34 wherein said post member has an octagonal shaped cross-section.
- 36. The method of claim 34 wherein said socket comprises at least a first, second and third face, wherein said first and second face of said socket are formed at an approximate 45 degree angle, wherein said second and third face of said socket are formed at an approximate 45 degree angle and wherein said first and third face of said socket are formed at an approximate 90 degree angle.
- 37. The method of claim 36 wherein said socket has an octagonal shaped cavity.
- 38. The method of claim 30 wherein said support bracket comprises a pair of laterally extending support arms, wherein said pair of support arms are oriented as a right-hand support when said support bracket is mounted in said first position, and wherein said pair of support arms are oriented as a left-hand support when said support bracket is mounted in said third position.
- 39. The method of claim 38 further comprising supporting a work surface member on said support arms.
