- elastomeric means disposed between a movable portion of said elongated member located between the end of the free end portion and said one end portion, said movable portion being movable relative to the ski when the ski bends, and a portion separate from said elongated member and immovable relative to the ski, to reduce vibrations; and
- impedance means fixable to the ski and operatively connectable to said free end portion for limiting the amount of movement between said free portion and the ski once the ski bends a predetermined amount to control the stiffness of the ski.
- 2. A system according to claim 1, wherein said impedance means comprises an adhesive attached to the ski.
- 3. A system for changing the stiffness of a ski, said system comprising:
- an elongated member having one end portion fixable to the ski and having a free end portion relatively movable longitudinally in a path along the ski as the ski bends;
- retainer means operatively engageable with said free end portion as bending moments are applied to the ski and having contact surface means in the path of said free end portion, the amount of rotation of said retainer means varies the means to engage said free end portion to reduce the longitudinal bending of the ski under said system, said retainer means including means rotatable about an axis disposed transversely to said elongated member, and follower means having said contact surface means movable relative to said elongated member as said rotatable means rotates about said transverse axis.
- 4. A system according to claim 3, wherein said rotatable means has an eccentric shape.
- 5. A system for changing the stiffness of a ski, said system comprising:
- an elongated member having one end portion fixable to the ski and having a free end portion relatively movable longitudinally in a path along the ski as the ski bends;
- retainer means operatively engageable with said free end portion as bending moments are applied to the ski and having contact surface means in the path of said free end portion, the amount of rotation of said retainer means varies the means to engage said free end portion to reduce the longitudinal bending of the ski under said system, said retainer means including means rotatable about an axis vertical to said elongated member, and follower means having said contact surface means movable relative to said elongated member as said rotatable means rotates about said vertical axis.
- 6. A system according to claim 3, wherein said rotatable means has an eccentric shape.
- 7. A system for changing the stiffness of a ski, said system comprising:
- a longitudinally extending member adapted to be attached to the top of a ski, said member having a first end portion, a second end portion, and a longitudinal axis;
- means for fixably securing said first end portion to said ski;
- holding means securable to said ski for slidably receiving and holding said second end portion next to said ski to permit movement of said second end portion relative to said ski as said ski bends; and
- impedance means securable to said ski, said impedance means including means operably engageable with said second end portion for changing the stiffness of the ski and control means for moving said means operably engageable with said second end portion transversely relative to said longitudinal axis for operative engagement with said second end portion or for disengagement with said second end portion.
- 8. A system according to claim 7, wherein said longitudinally extending member comprises:
- an elongated main member and a slide member connected to and movable over said main member to adjust said longitudinally extending member for different sizes of ski boots, said main member being fixable to a ski and said slide member having said second portion.
- 9. A system according to claim 8, wherein said slide member has a yoke fixable to a ski for retaining said slide member.
- 10. A system according to claim 8, and further including a slide member bearing fixable to a ski for guiding said slide member to slide through said yoke.
- 11. A system according to claim 8, wherein said means operably engageable with said second end portion comprises stop means for engagement with said second end portion, and said control means comprises a rotatable control means holding said stop means.
- 12. A system according to claim 11, and further comprising:
- a cover plate extending over portions of said main member, slide member, and rotatable control means; and
- said system further including an underlying base plate, and said base plate having generally vertical side walls and being fixable to said ski, said base plate and said cover plate together comprising a housing for a portion of said main member, slide member, and rotatable control means.
- 13. A system according to claim 12, wherein said rotatable control means comprises a cam disk pivotal about an axis; and
- said stop means comprises at least two peripheral edge surfaces on said cam disk, said cam disk being pivotal to locate any of said edge surfaces in juxtaposition to said second portion.
- 14. A system according to claim 7, and further including an elastomeric member interposed between said impedance means and said second portion.
- 15. An assembly according to claim 13, in which said cam disk is provided with at least one resilient detent lug adapted for positioning in a detent recess located in said base plate.
